Motorcyclists charged with speeding – M2

Two motorcyclists will appear in court next month after being detected travelling at almost double the speed limit on the M2 Motorway in suburban Sydney.

Around 11pm yesterday (Tuesday 11th January) Eastwood Highway Patrol officers detected two motorcycles travelling over the 100kmh speed limit at Baulkham Hills. Both motorcycles were carrying female pillion passengers.

The first motorcyclist, riding a Suzuki, was detected travelling at 193kmh while the second motorcyclist, riding a Honda, accelerated away from police.

The Suzuki motorcycle was stopped near Pennant Hills Road. A 38-year-old Condell Park man, who was riding the Suzuki, was charged with drive speed dangerous, exceed the speed limit by more than 45kmh and using a vehicle with an obscured number plate. His licence was also suspended.

Police stopped the Honda on the M2 Motorway at Cheltenham. A 28-year-old man from Elwood in Victoria, was charged with drive speed dangerous, exceed the speed limit by more than 45kmh and using a vehicle with an obscured number plate.

Both men are expected to appear at Hornsby Local Court on 23rd February.






Fatal truck crash - Urana

Police are investigating a fatal single vehicle collision at Urana on the NSW-Victorian border overnight.
About 11.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 11th Janaury 2005) a B-double truck carrying chemicals was travelling on the Corowa Road about 3 kilometres south-east of Urana, when it left the road and crashed into a creek. One person died as a result of the collision and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Retrieval operation begins after truck crash - Adelong

Emergency services have begun a retrieval operation to recover the body of a truck driver whose vehicle crashed into an Adelong hotel this morning.
About 8.30am a light refrigerated truck was heading south on the Snowy Mountains Highway entering the township of Adelong. On reaching the intersection of Adelong’s main street the truck has failed to negotiate the intersection, crashing into the main bar of a hotel on the corner of Tumut and Campbell Streets.
As a result of the crash, the truck has come to rest in the main body of the hotel underneath the balcony and facade, extensively damaging the building.
Equipment was used to stabilise the building to allow operation to begin.
Urban search and rescue personnel will enter the building later this afternoon to reconfirm initial assessments that all staff and guests are accounted for.
Police are continuing inquiries to determine the cause of the accident and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
