NEXT CAR'S NEWSLETTER
30th SEPTEMBER, 2005

WELCOME
to our newsletter #58

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK

Friends,

You can expect to hear more about the new Mitsubishi 380 now that some details have been published. Soon we can expect to learn how competitive the pricing will be. My prediction is that we will soon learn that the Australian car market remains very competitive. Despite the fact that we are heading towards yet another record breaking year, every manufacturer wants every last sale! New 380, new BF Falcon and new VZ Commodore Lumina all at the same time! It is probably a coincidence, but it sure does confirm the market is very, very competitive!

Warm regards,
Stephen Walker

LOOKING BACK

Ferdinand Porsche's office

Ferdinand Porsche's office

The office of Ferdinand Porsche
in Gmünd/Kärnten (Austria).

In 1944, the engineering office was transferred from Zuffenhausen (Stuttgart), Germany to Gmünd (Kärnten), Austria due to the increasingly frequency of the WWII bombing raids on Stuttgart. Ferdinand Porsche (1875 – 1951) took up residence in the porter’s annexe in the barracks (see illustration). The Porsche 356 was designed and manufactured on this site. At the end of 1949 Porsche returned to Zuffenhausen (Germany). The barracks illustrated still exists to this day and is used by the Austrian Porsche 356 Club as their clubhouse.

The XR8 is a popular choice because image is an important factor when buying a car. And the XR8 projects a powerful image. As such, I expect it to remain a desirable package, despite the fact that it could, in my view, be a much better product.
