FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK

Friends,

The failure of MG Rover is not good. Rather than fewer companies, considering the size of the worldwide automotive industry, additional car companies would make more sense. But the collapse of MG Rover does highlight the fact that the automotive industry is a tough industry. Only the strong survive in this industry. Whilst I have my own view on why MG Rover failed, I'll be prudent and wait for more details to come out of Longbridge before looking back at the history of the company that gave the world so many classics. You can be sure we will publish more information on this tragic loss to the automotive industry.

By the way, the failure of MG Rover, isn't a surprise. Sure it's a major disappointment, but there have been signs of big problems for some time now. We'll refresh your memory about these signs in an upcoming article.

In other news, an industry insider told me, last week, that Next Car is up there with the industry heavyweights in relation to the size of our audience. Yes, that's true, but I didn't tell him that we just moved over to the fast lane. Nor did I tell him that we haven't yet changed into overdrive!

Warm regards,
Stephen Walker

The Editor's Pick Of The News

After reading the news, which story did you enjoy the most?

To be successful, a car company needs good product/s and/or good marketing. Some companies sell their cars by serving endless advertising upon unsuspecting consumers. Others choose to serve an excellent product. In the case of Suzuki it is the latter. Their new Swift is an excellent product and it is, in the view of this Editor, the best tiny car on the Australian market today. We predicted its success last year, hence we're delighted to be proven correct and, as such, this becomes our pick of the week ..... read about the success of the Suzuki Swift ..... here.
