NEXT CAR'S NEWSLETTER
13th SEPTEMBER, 2004

WELCOME
to our newsletter #31

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK

Friends,

Can the news department get any busier? We knew the car companies would be gearing up somewhat for the two Motor Shows which are just around the corner ..... Paris and Sydney. But despite the number of stories already published, you can still expect more! And we'll have the news on the website just as soon as it's possible.

Enjoy your week!

Warm regards,
Stephen Walker

The first Korean car appeared in 1955. Following the liberation of Korea, cars were built in a labour intensive environment, using components from used American and Japanese military vehicles. The Daewoo Sibal, thus became the first Korean car. It lasted until the early sixties, when the government's 5-year plan for the automotive industry came into play. This plan was to see the automotive industry 'localise' foreign sourced parts, from the components of imported knocked-down units. Then a switch to local manufacturing would see the industry stand alone and, therefore, no longer dependent upon foreign companies. This five year plan failed. Although in time, the Korean car industry was to develop into a modern and effecient income earner for the Korean economy.
