The example shown opposite featured the optional Grand Sport Rally Pack which included sweeping side-stripes, styled steel wheels, a wood-grained sports steering wheel with full-circle rim-squeeze horn and a gauges package. Standard equipment for the Fairmont hardtop was a 4.1 litre six-cylinder engine, 3-speed automatic transmission with column shifter, front disc brakes, deep-pile carpeting and bucket seats. Options included power steering, a 5-litre or 5.7-litre V8, power windows, a push-button radio and an electric clock. Stephen Walker |

PICK OF THE WEEK After reading the news of this week, which story did you appreciate the most? The breaking news from late today, rates #1 for me this week. The news that Mitsubishi have confirmed their plans for the next generation of Magna is good news for all car enthusiasts. The wider the choice, the better the choice. This seems quite a reasonable concept to this Editor. Stephen Walker |

Australia's new GolfThe new model Golf, which is the 5th generation of Volkswagen's compact car, will be here in September. Both petrol and diesel models will be available. Although it is an all-new vehicle, it builds upon the Golf’s traditional strengths of high quality, safety and technology, with, for example, new multi-link suspension, improved interior space and an advanced range of FSI and TDI engines. Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2003, it has already been widely acclaimed as a class-leading vehicle, and claimed a number of awards in Germany shortly after going on sale. |
Germany's most popular luxury 4WD!The off-road vehicle from Volkswagen is enjoying increasing popularity since it was launched in the autumn of 2002. Having sold 5421 vehicles between January and April 2004, it is now the best-selling luxury class off-road vehicle on the German market. Since its launch over 74,000 Touaregs have been sold worldwide. The most popular engine is still the R5 TDI which produces 128 kW (174PS) and is ordered with 70 percent of vehicles sold. It is followed by the V10 TDI (230kW/313PS). In April just under 15 percent of all Touaregs purchased were fitted with this engine. In addition, the off-road vehicle is also available with the V6 (177kW/241PS) and V8 (228kW/310PS) petrol engines. The best selling colour in Germany is "Black Magic Pearl effect" with 37.70 percent of orders. |
