6th May, 2004 Volkswagen Gets The LCV Market Working To the acknowledged Volkswagen Transporter strengths – absolute reliability, economy and efficiency – the all-new T5 range now adds ‘ergonomics’. Sure the outside features the glorious, contemporary style of the all-new Transporter but let’s face it, when your working day is spent behind the wheel, ergonomics count for a lot. Volkswagen’s all-new Transporter lineup can meet the challenge of any working environment and - with plenty of innovations - sets new standards for Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs). Powerful, extremely thrifty engines and long maintenance intervals ensure lasting savings – a critical factor with LCVs. Combine the independent suspension delivering agile handling and comfortable ride, plus the well thought-out, ergonomic cab full of practical features and you can see why the all-new Transporter will get Australia working…just like it does in Europe. Volkswagen’s all-new T5 range was named Europe’s ‘Van Of The Year’ in 2004 – as you would expect for an all-new Volkswagen that is chapter five of an automotive model history that has already assumed ‘legend’ status amongst automotive historians. New Transporter gets working with 28 models – Short Wheelbase (SWB) and Long Wheelbase (LWB) vans in standard, mid and high-roof plus single-cab and dual-cab cab chassis with short and long wheelbases. The engine lineup includes two versions of the 1.9-litre TDI and 2.5-litre TDI plus the 2.0-litre petrol. All engines come with a new six speed gearbox. In the cab, Transporter offers two ergonomic, anatomically correct seats for enjoyable driving and relaxing travel (a bench two-passenger seat is optional allowing for the driver and two passengers). The drivers seat has optional height adjustment. All seats have three-point seat belts and dual airbags are standard (except for vehicles fitted with 1.9-litre turbo-diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines which have driver airbags). The steering wheel has adjustment for height and rake and the joystick gearlever is conveniently set into the dashboard. A well thought-out variety of storage places includes the lockable glovebox, cup holders and pockets for maps and other paperwork. Out back the functional load compartment has been designed by people who know how delivery vans work best. The almost rectangular shape maximizes volume (up to 9.3 cubic metres in the LWB van model) and there are six or eight (depending on the model) lashing eyes to secure loads. An extra sliding side door can be ordered, as can robust cargo area partitions. When it comes to cab chassis’ (pickups) Volkswagen’s all-new T5 lineup also has plenty to offer. The double-cab version, available for long wheelbase models, can take the entire crew – six people in total. Four wing doors make access easy and there is even a handy and secure internal storage compartment under the three-seater bench seat. Also available is a single cab version with short or long wheelbase. With a variety of different load platform sizes, Volkswagen’s Transporter Cab Chassis is a commercial vehicle for just about any application. Phil Clark, Volkswagen Group Australia’s General Manager of Commercial Vehicles said: “Volkswagen is recognized as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) and we have a reputation for delivering those features and innovations that maximize comfort, efficiency, safety and provide reduced running costs. Here in Australia we’re very serious about securing significantly increased sales in the LCV market and there’s no doubt with the all-new T5 range we have the products to do just that.” Also, read about the T5 introductionAlso, read about the KOMBIAlso, read about the CARAVELLE |
