Volkswagen's Australian Sales Exceed 20,000 In 2006
12th January, 2007 | ||||
For the first time since the mid 1960s, Volkswagen has sold more than 20,000
vehicles in a calendar year. To be precise, there were 21,571 Volkswagen
passenger and commercial vehicles sold in 2006. This also ensured Volkswagen
was the 10th highest selling brand in Australia for the year. This stellar year
of +36.7% growth for the brand in 2006, followed on from the +46.8% volume
growth in 2005. Managing Director - Volkswagen Group Australia, Mrs Jutta Dierks had this to
say about why, for the 2nd year in a row, the Volkswagen brand has achieved such
significant growth. “There are a number of factors that have worked together to
achieve these results. Firstly, in a product sense, we have launched six new and
updated models throughout the year including the new Jetta and Passat. Secondly,
the fact we offer diesel engines throughout the passenger vehicle range has
given us a significant point of difference in the market place. And thirdly, the
strength of our dealer network and their keenness and confidence to invest in
the facilities to manage this growth has shone through also.” Mrs Dierks added that 2007 will be an important year as it will be a year of
consolidation with a full year of the new models launched last year, and the
launch of Volkswagen’s exciting new coupe/cabriolet the Eos, in the first half
of the year. The Volkswagen brand performed strongly globally in 2006 with sales of 3.395
million vehicles which equated to growth of +10% over 2005. Volkswagen Group
overall, which consists of the Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Skoda, Seat,
Lamborghini, Bugatti and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle brands, sold 5.73 million
vehicles equating to +9.4% growth over 2005. |
