Volvo D5 Diesel Engine - Image Copyright VolvoVolvo will enter the New Year with a revised diesel lineup, including an all-new D5 engine that combines performance with significant benefits in emissions and fuel economy, along with a high-tech 2.0D turbodiesel that drives a super-efficient dual-clutch Powershift gearbox.

“Volvo Australia is poised to increase its presence in the prestige and luxury sectors in 2010,” says Volvo Car Australia Managing Director, Alan Desselss.

“With strong demand for our all-new XC60 by the Australian car-buying public following its launch in 2008, as well as steady performances by the likes of the C30, V50 and XC90, we feel we are doing exceptionally well in difficult times for the industry,” he said.

Underpinning all this is Volvo’s place among industry leaders as an innovator in vehicle safety with the continuing introduction of new initiatives including City Safety, an advanced system launched in 2008 with the potential to avoid low-speed accidents. City Safety is standard equipment on the new XC60.

City Safety is just one of the Volvo technologies being recognised in world markets by insurance institutes that are offering reduced premiums on the XC60. In Australia, some insurance companies are reducing premiums by up to 20 per cent for XC60 buyers.

Volvo C30, S40 and V50
The compact two-door Volvo C30 becomes an even more enticing proposition with the addition of the new 2.0D Powershift model featuring a refined and super-efficient dual-clutch six-speed transmission as well as a new 100kW four-cylinder turbodiesel.

The dual-clutch Powershift transmission eliminates the losses experienced in conventional automatics and operates more efficiently than a conventional manual gearbox with virtually instant shifts giving an uninterrupted power flow while accelerating.

The new 2.0-litre turbodiesel uses lightweight construction and advanced technology to deliver strong power and torque while improving on fuel economy and lowering exhaust emissions.

The C30 2.0D Powershift replaces the previous C30 D5 and brings improved economy with a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.9l/100km, and CO2 emissions as low as 156g/km. The C30 2.0D Powershift accelerates from zero to 100km/h in a swift 9.5 seconds

The C30 range continues to include S and LE models powered by Volvo’s 2.4-litre five-cylinder engine producing 125kW and 230Nm of torque and driving through Volvo’s five-speed Geartronic adaptive automatic transmission.

Volvo S40 and V50 are also available in 2.0D Powershift variants, bringing increased efficiency and refinement, as well as improved fuel economy and reduced emissions over the previous D5-engined models.

Average fuel consumption for both the S40 and V50 2.0D Powershift models is 6.0l/100km, with a CO2 figure of 159g/km. The S40 accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 9.6 seconds, with the V50 only fractionally behind at 9.7 seconds.

For 2010, the C30, S40 and V50 models offer a new variant: the T5 R-Design.

Reduced pricing reflects the replacement of the previous all-wheel drive system with front-wheel drive on the S40 and V50.

With spirited performance provided by Volvo’s turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine producing 169kW at 5000rpm, along with 320Nm of torque from 1500rpm to 5000rpm, the new T5 R-Design S40 and V50 maximise driving pleasure and make a powerful statement with distinctive sports styling inside and out.

The T5 R-design models feature a special body kit with a rear spoiler, twin chrome exhausts and matt satin finish on the grille and side mirrors as well as unique alloy wheels.

Inside, T5 R-design gain special upholstery featuring off-black Flex-Tec and cream leather seats embossed with the R-design logo, a leather-rimmed Sport steering wheel, Sport leather gear knob, sports instrumentation, sport pedals and R-design floor mats.

The luxurious V70 all-wheel-drive station wagon presents a fresh face for 2010 with a new grille featuring bolder Volvo identification, along with interior refinements that enhance its Swedish elegance and functionality.

Among the improvements are the optimisation of the Volvo Navigation System that now uses a black background with more user-friendly icons and easy to read menus with higher levels of contrast.

A new four-spoke steering wheel with deco inlay complements the driving pleasure offered by the V70, while ergonomic window switches, new aluminium trim and optional Dynamic upholstery featuring extra bolstering for even more comfort, embellish the tastefully furnished interior.

A new quartz headliner for anthracite, cranberry and quartz interiors, and the introduction of Caspian Blue exterior colour also highlight changes to the 2010 V70.

The R-Design 2010 V70- range will now include an update to the R-Design option. The V70 R-Design features unique 18-inch wheels, lowered, sports-tuned suspension and styling embellishments including a colour-matched rear spoiler, matt silver grille and exterior mirrors, and chrome exhaust pipes. Volvo’s FOUR-C Active Chassis suspension becomes optional in the 2010 V70.

The Volvo V70 employs the powerful and refined 3.0-litre T6 engine that produces 210kW and 400Nm of torque to provide swift, relaxed performance.
The T6 drives through Volvo’s six-speed adaptive Geartronic automatic transmission.

Similarly to the V70, Volvo’s XC70 all wheel drive station wagon gains a new-look grille, along with interior changes that further upgrade its luxurious ambience.

Improved functionality for the XC70’s Volvo Navigation System includes more clearly-read displays on a black background, while improved, new-look window switches, the availability of a quartz headliner on certain interior colours, and a new Caspian Blue colour choice make it an even more attractive proposition for 2010.

The Volvo XC70 is available with a choice of petrol or diesel engine options, including the refined, naturally aspirated 3.2-litre transverse six-cylinder engine producing 175kW and 320Nm of torque, and the all-new 2.4-litre D5 five-cylinder turbodiesel with a high 151kW power output and a beefy 420Nm of torque.

The new D5 engine was developed in house by Volvo and meets Euro 5 emission standards while upping the performance, lowering emissions and improving fuel economy compared to the previous, already impressive D5.

Both petrol and diesel engines drive all four wheels through Volvo’s adaptive six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission.

Volvo XC60
With its rakish looks, outstanding on-road dynamics and Volvo’s City Safety system, the all-wheel-drive XC60 stands alone in the Australian crossover segment and is proving a sales success.

For 2010, the Volvo XC60 adds to its already formidable arsenal of features and equipment with the inclusion of the all-new D5 turbodiesel and the powerful, normally aspirated 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine in the range.

With a turbodiesel output of 151kW and 420Nm of torque, the new D5 engine represents solid on-road performance, low fuel consumption and emissions that meet Euro 5 standards.

The 2010 Volvo XC60 also gains a power-operated tailgate providing greater ease of operation and improved convenience for driver and passengers. The power-operated tailgate is standard equipment on all XC60 models.

Similarly to the V70 and XC70, the 2010 Volvo XC60 is also equipped with an optimised Volvo Navigation system with more user-friendly controls and an easy-to-read screen with a black background.

The Volvo XC60 is also available with the powerful 3.0-litre T6 engine developing 210kW and 400Nm of torque.

Volvo C70
The Volvo C70 luxury hardtop convertible is now available in entry level C70 S guise, following the deletion from the range of the C70 LE model.

Standard equipment in the new C70 S is slightly downgraded from the C70 LE yet the Manufacturer’s List price has been significantly reduced, from $71,950 for the discontinued LE to $59,990 for the C70 S.

Changes include the replacement of leather upholstery with exclusive Haverdal seat trim, Performance Sound replacing High Performance Sound and the deletion of Volvo’s IAQS Interior Air Quality System. A more sports oriented aluminium interior trim replaces the LE’s Nordic Light Oak trim.

The front wheel drive powertrain of the C70 S uses the 125W 2.4-litre five-cylinder engine producing 230Nm of torque, coupled with Volvo’s five-speed adaptive Geartronic automatic transmission.

The powerful, all wheel drive Volvo C70 T5, with its turbocharged 162kW five-cylinder engine producing 320Nm of torque and Volvo’s six-speed adaptive Geartronic automatic transmission, remains unchanged except for the price, which has been lowered from the previous Manufacturer’s List price of $82,950 to $69,900.

The C70 features, in addition to an extremely rigid convertible structure, a combination of side curtain airbags and front side airbags that play a role in Volvo’s advanced SIPS side impact protection system to maximise passenger security in an accident. The C70 also utilises Volvo’s Rollover Protection System, in which rollover bars are deployed to protect passengers in the event of a rollover.
