Record sales for Volkswagen Group
Australia in 2008
9th
January, 2009
Volkswagen Group Australia has achieved a new record
with 29,875 vehicle sales in a calendar year, its fourth straight year of
growth. As a result, Volkswagen is now
the 10th most popular brand on volume in Australia.
This result represents growth of
9% in 2008, the highest growth of the top 10 brands,
and an increase in
market share from 2.6% to 3.0%.
Volkswagen has thrived
in Australia thanks in part to it's regular release of successful new models,
the increased diversity in it's range, the acceptance in the market of diesel
engines and the shift in the Australian market away from the big Aussie six.
There were some stand out models in the range which performed
well with significant increases over the prior year. Touareg +43.7%, Polo
+36.5%, Eos +29.0% and Passat +7.7%. The Golf continues to be Volkswagen’s best
selling model with 11,632 delivered last year an increase of 5.9%.
In the commercial vehicle range, the Volkswagen Caddy Van
increased sales on the back of the new Caddy Maxi variant by 27.4%.
The upcoming release of the Passat CC and new Golf range will
support Volkswagen's attempts to maintain it's growth in 2009.
The
Volkswagen Touareg R50 was named by
www.nextcar.com.au as our
Top Drive of 2008 for vehicles priced above $57,180. To read more about this,
