More Australian motorists bought a Toyota Corolla in July
than any other vehicle, according to official sales figures released yesterday.
Australia's most popular vehicle for the month is also the country's best-selling four-cylinder car so
far this year, the figures show.
Customers bought 3,891 Corollas in July, lifting its total for the year to 21,464 and helping it to
overall leadership of the small-car segment.
Toyota Australia's senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner said Corolla's
fuel-efficiency was a key factor influencing purchase decisions.
"While excellent fuel economy is important, customers have also enabled Corolla to top the sales
charts because of its spritely performance, style, space and great value," Mr Buttner said.
"These are the same reasons why Camry - recently upgraded with even better fuel economy and
improved value - is the best-selling medium car by a large margin in July and for the year so
far."
"Similarly, Prius achieved an all-time sales record last month on the back of the launch of the
third-generation car."
In other results, Kluger was the country's best-selling SUV in July and Toyota filled three of the
top four places with strong results for Prado and RAV4.
Toyota also had strong sales in other segments with HiLux the most popular big ute and HiAce leading
the van and bus markets.
In the large-car segment, the Aurion was the only Australian-produced car to show a sales increase in
July compared with the same month last year.
