Toyota has upgraded the audio systems and made a reversing camera standard on its Camry range.

The running changes come at no extra cost for the four petrol and two petrol-electric hybrid Camry variants.

Toyota Camry's latest improvements arrive as the popular model is within weeks of achieving its 21st consecutive year as Australia's best-selling mid-size car.

Every Camry gains Toyota's newest audio system that features a display screen that provides touch, drag and flick operations familiar to users of smartphones or tablets.

Four of the six variants have a 6.1-inch screen that also displays the image from the reversing camera, which is now fitted to the most affordable Camry, Altise. Other Camry variants are already fitted with this safety and convenience feature.

Top-of-the-line petrol Atara SL and hybrid HL have 7-inch screens with satellite navigation and the addition of Toyota Link connected mobility (for compatible devices; call charges at users expense; factors outside of Toyota's control may effect the use of this feature).

Toyota Link provides apps, at Toyota's discretion, to help drivers find a destination, fuel, weather details and other information as well as roadside and other assistance.

Users can connect compatible smartphones and operate the apps entirely using the touchscreen.

The audio in these grades also includes voice recognition in addition to the Camry standard of Bluetooth phone connection and audio streaming.

Toyota Camry has been sold in Australia since 1983 and has been built locally since 1987. It has been the best-selling car in its class since 1994.

So far this year, Toyota dealers have sold more than 15,700 Camry sedans, which represents a remarkable 42.6 per cent of its segment and places it 11,000 sales clear of its nearest competitor.

Now in its seventh generation, Camry offers 2.5-litre petrol engines in petrol or petrol-electric hybrid configurations.

Camry Altise delivers 133kW of power and 231Nm of torque while Atara variants gain twin exhausts that help lift output to 135kW and 235Nm. Fuel economy across the petrol range is rated at 7.8 litres/100km on the combined cycle.

Stand-out performance and economy comes from the hybrid system, which has a combined output of 151kW with power varied between the petrol engine and electric motor, or combined as needed. Fuel use is rated at 5.2 litres/100km on the combined cycle.

Camry is covered by Toyota Service Advantage with the cost of services capped at $130 for each of up to five services in the first four years or 75,000km.
