16th September, 2005 Suzuki Motor Corporation has good reason to celebrate following the positive reviews and successful sales of the third generation compact SUV, the New Grand Vitara. Released into the Australian, North American and European markets this month, the bold and rugged good looks of the new Grand Vitara along with its proven off road abilities have created high demand for the vehicle. Launched into the Japanese domestic market in May of this year, under the name Escudo, Suzuki originally set an annual sales target of 120,000 units worldwide. The overwhelming response to the vehicle has seen Suzuki increase the worldwide sales target by 40% to 180,000 units, this includes a 50% increase to 165,000 units for Japan, 30,000 units in North America and 50,000 units for Europe, which are both a 30% increase on the original target. The new Grand Vitara is manufactured and produced in Japan and is exported to South America, Europe, North America and Australia. Suzuki Australia is also very confident in the package the new Grand Vitara offers and have set an annual sales target of 5,500 units. The Grand Vitara is available with the choice of a three door and five door variant, and both feature sporty, dynamic designs with an emphasis on elegance and utility for the 5 door, whilst the 3 door has a bold, athletic nature. The sporty 3 door, available in manual transmission is a single model featuring an economical 1.6 litre engine with variable valve timing developing 73kW at 5,900rpm. The 5 door variant will be available in a 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder engine in both manual and automatic transmission, as well as a powerful 2.7 litre V6 model engine to cater especially for the Australian market. The Grand Vitara V6, offers buyers a maximum output of 135kW/6,000rpm and is available in either a 5 speed manual or 5 speed automatic transmission. Prices for the Grand Vitara start at $23,990 for the 3 door, $28,990 for the 2.0 litre 5 door and $30,990 for the 2.7 litre V6 engine. Automatic transmission is an extra $2,000. Suzuki’s all new Grand Vitara is on sale now around Australia and comes with Suzuki CustomerCare, providing customers with peace of mind via a three year/100,000km warranty and three year 24 hour roadside assistance. *** Please note product and pricing information issued by Suzuki Australia Pty Ltd may not be applicable in the state of QLD and in areas of Northern NSW (all areas north of the mouth of the Clarence River to Mungindi).***
