Ssangyong Distributorship Changes
9th November, 2008 | |||
Sime Darby Motor Group (Australia) Pty Limited has announced the successful acquisition of the Australian distribution rights for Ssangyong Motor Vehicles and spare parts by Sime Darby. The new company will be trading under the name of Ssangyong Motors Australia from last Friday. Sime Darby, one of South East Asia & Oceania's largest motoring conglomerates, acquired the Peugeot distribution rights in Australia in late 2001 since which time it has reinvigorated the brand and produced record sales results under the management of the local Peugeot Australia team. Rob Dommerson, Managing Director of Sime Darby Automobiles said, "The acquisition of the Ssangyong franchise will add a new dimension to the established business base that Sime Darby has successfully operated in Australia for the last seven years". The Ssangyong team will be led by Jeff Barber, General Manager/Director who has been with Sime Darby in Australia since 2001. "In Ssangyong we see a tremendous opportunity. Ssangyong Dual Cab Utilities, SUV's and People Movers are quality products representing excellent value for money. Furthermore, the availability of diesel technology in 2WD and 4WD and in both manual and automatic transmissions provides some very unique propositions for our customers in Australia" said Jeff Barber. He continued "We need to significantly increase the awareness of Ssangyong though with the resources we're putting in place along with our committed network of dealers we're confident of success." |
