DaimlerChrysler today announced Australian recommended retail pricing for the Smart Forfour, the new member of the Smart family that will offer a smart alternative in the small car segment. Like all Smart models, the key product values typical to the brand, such as the TRIDION safety cell and the use of two colours, have also been implemented and enriched with new ideas in the four-seater which will go on sale later this month. Buyers of the 3.75 metre Smart will have a choice of two petrol variants. The 'inner life' of the Smart Forfour also offers an innovative space concept, and typical smart solutions which will be available for the first time in the small car segment. The features of the Smart Forfour are both emotive and functional. This five-door car has an individual profile, offering driving pleasure with a sporty touch. Despite its compact dimensions, there is space for all the safety features typical to Smart. With the Smart Forfour the designers have developed an independent car with a strong character for the small car segment, which is a new interpretation of the standards set by the Smart Fortwo coupé, Smart Fortwo cabrio and Smart roadster. The new Smart Forfour will start from $23,900 for the 70kW 1.3-litre Smart Forfour Pulse and $25,900 for the 80kW 1.5-litre Smart Forfour Pulse. Recommended retail pricing for the Smart range, effective October 1:
A green pedigree The Smart Fortwo coupé and cabrio are officially the ‘greenest’ cars you can buy in Australia. The Smart Fortwo coupé and cabrio took the top two spots in the Australian government’s inaugural Green Vehicle Guide (GVG), achieving five stars for overall environmental performance. Not to be outdone, the Smart roadster also achieved a coveted five-star environmental performance rating, ranking fourth overall in the guide. The new Green Vehicle Guide provides information for each vehicle to help customers determine the level of emissions of different vehicles and consequently their impact on the environment. The five-star rating for environmental performance comes on top of recent results which found that the Smart Fortwo coupé is Australia’s cheapest car to repair following a low speed crash. Cheaper to repair The internationally accredited low speed crash test programme, carried out by Australian general insurer, NRMA Insurance, showed that the innovative two seater coupé from Smart is 42 per cent cheaper to repair than the average small car. The Smart Fortwo coupé became the first small car tested by NRMA to fall below 10 per cent in terms of the repair cost as a percentage of its purchase price. After subjecting 46 of Australia’s top selling cars to a pendulum crash test, replicating a 15km/h collision with a solid barrier or a 30km/h collision into the rear of another vehicle, the Smart Fortwo coupé ended up with the cheapest repair bill outright as well ($2,258). The Smart model range in Australia consists of the Smart Fortwo coupé, Fortwo cabrio, Smart roadster and shortly the Smart forfour. |
