Sales Boom Continues For Skoda
27th April, 2008 | |||
Skoda's worldwide results for the first quarter of 2008 have exceeded all expectations. Sales over the first three months of 2008 totalled 173,474 vehicles – that’s an increase of 15.7% compared to the same period last year. The new Fabia Estate, which isn't sold in Australia, has contributed greatly to this success. Launched in January this year, over 19,500 wagons have already been delivered to customers around the world. Total Fabia sales for Q1 (hatch and estate) reached 63,579 (up 8.5%). Elsewhere, the Octavia also retained its popularity with buyers. Nearly 71,000 were sold in the first 12 weeks of 2008. These impressive first quarter results were largely due to growing demand in Eastern Europe and Asia. Over 27,000 Škoda vehicles were sold in Eastern Europe (up 38.6%) with Skoda continuing its popularity in communist China with sales totalling 16,212. In Australia, the Czech brand continues to impress customers and the media alike, with the Next Car editor (Stephen Walker) indicating that the air conditioning system in the Skoda Octavia is the most effective automotive air conditioning he has experienced. |
