Saab 2005 Model Year: |
14th February, 2005 SAAB AUSTRALIA HAS expanded its 9-3 Convertible range for the 2005 model year by introducing a Vector variant and repositioning the entry Linear model with revised specification and lower price. The expansion of the 9-3 Convertible range gives Saab three clear 9-3 Convertible variants – each with its own distinctive level of turbocharged engine performance and equipment levels. The repositioned 9-3 Linear Convertible is powered by the impressive 2.0-litre low-pressure turbocharged engine (badged 1.8t) developing 110 kW of power at 5,500 rpm; but, more significantly, a constant 240 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm to 3,500 rpm for strong mid-range acceleration. This low-pressure turbocharged engine is also the most fuel-efficient in the 9-3 range, delivering 9.7L / 100 kms on Combined cycle when mated to the popular five-speed Sentronic automatic transmission. Standard equipment for the MY05 9-3 Linear Convertible includes: leather trimmed seats and steering wheel, 16-inch twin five-spoke alloy wheels, remote opening roof, automatic expanding boot (when the top is up), body-coloured lower front and rear bumpers and side sills, pop-up roll bars, heated front seats, cruise control and rain-sensing wipers. The MY05 9-3 Linear Convertible’s outstanding value and performance is matched by outstanding occupant safety. The 9-3 Convertible has the maximum 5-star crash rating by EuroNCAP, thereby making Saab the only vehicle importer in Australia with an exclusive range of 5-star EuroNCAP vehicles. Vector is the new mid-level offering in the 9-3 Convertible range for 2005. Vector is a sportier model with a higher level of turbocharging for its 2.0-litre engine, producing 129 kW at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm from 2,500 rpm to 4,000 rpm. Standard Vector specification, over and above Linear, includes: 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, ESP, sport leather steering wheel with Sentronic gear change buttons (when automatic transmission is optioned), matt chrome interior trim highlights, dual zone climate control, adjustable driver’s armrest, additional driving lights in the lower front bumper and front and rear floor mats. Both Linear and Vector are also available with the Luxury Pack option; comprising electric front seats (driver with 3-position memory), anti-theft alarm, Saab Parking Assistance and 6-disc in-dash CD changer. Specification and equipment levels for the top of the range 9-3 Aero Convertible – with its high-output 2.0-litre turbocharged engine developing 155 kW at 5,500 rpm and 300 Nm from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm – is unchanged from the 2004 model. Standard Aero features, over and above Vector, include: six-speed close-ratio manual gearbox, 17-inch twin five-spoke alloy wheels, sports chassis with 10mm lower ride height, Aero sports exterior with boot lid spoiler, two-tone luxury leather electric sports front seats (driver with 3 position memory), 6-disc in-dash CD changer, anti-theft alarm, Saab Parking Assistance, auto-dimming rearview mirror and ES2 monochrome console display with telephone keypad. “There is an opportunity to widen the appeal of the Saab 9-3 Convertible,” says Director of Saab Australia, Ralph Stevenson. “Saab already has the best-selling luxury four-seater open-top car in Australia. With the 2005 Saab 9-3 Convertible range we can offer even more people the opportunity to own the definitive all-seasons car.” Additional new exterior colours for MY05 9-3 Convertible are Chilli Red and Parchment Silver. MY05 Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan The four 9-3 Sport Sedan variants offer four clear levels of performance and specification. New to the MY05 9-3 Linear Sport Sedan are newly designed 16-inch twin five-spoke alloy wheels and a full-size spare wheel as standard, replacing the previous 15-inch alloys and mid-size spare respectively. Linear is powered by the 2.0-litre low-pressure turbocharged engine (badged 1.8t) developing 110 kW of power at 5,500 rpm and 240 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm to 3,500 rpm. Arc and Vector feature the same 2.0-litre engine but with a higher level of turbocharging to produce 129 kW at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm from 2,500 rpm to 4,000 rpm. Aero uses the high-output 2.0-litre turbocharged engine developing 155 kW at 5,500 rpm and 300 Nm from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. “The 9-3 Sport Sedan is the sensible choice for discerning prestige car buyers,” says Ralph Stevenson. “It is also a stylish and sporting car to drive.” Additional new exterior colours for MY05 Sport Sedan are Chilli Red, Parchment Silver and Smoke Beige. Saab 9-5 Sedan and SportEstate All 9-5 models are powered by Saab’s acclaimed 2.3-litre engine with varying levels of turbocharging. The 9-5 Sedan range comprises the 136 kW Linear, 162 kW Arc and 184 kW Aero; while 9-5 SportEstate is available in 136 kW Linear and 184 kW Aero forms. 9-5 Linear Sedan and SportEstate gain Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) as standard, further boosting their comprehensive lists of standard equipment. 9-5 Arc Sedan benefits from the addition of body-coloured lower front and rear bumpers and side sills while also gaining a new 16-inch 18-spoke alloy wheel design. “The 9-5 continues to offer excellent levels of performance and value in the upper medium premium segment,” says Ralph Stevenson. “The blend of easy driving, comfort and safety underlines the 9-5’s suitability as both family and executive car.” Additional new exterior colours for MY05 9-5 Sedan and SportEstate are Chilli Red, Parchment Silver and Smoke Beige.
