Saab Launches Australia’s First Diesel Convertible
17th January, 2007 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Saab’s iconic soft-top can add the title of Australia’s first diesel
convertible to its list of achievements with the 9-3 TiD Convertible now on
sale. In another win for Saab, the 9-3 TiD Convertible and its Sport Sedan and
SportCombi diesel stable mates, are now the three most efficient vehicles in
their segments. With official combined fuel consumption of 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres, the
9-3 TiD manual Sport Sedan becomes the most fuel efficient premium vehicle and
arguably feature-for-feature the best value diesel in the segment. The 9-3 TiD range is powered by the popular DOHC, 1.9 litre common rail turbo
diesel engine. Known for its refinement, efficiency and performance the 1.9TiD
develops 110 kW and 320 Nm of torque. All three new diesel models come standard with a close-ratio six-speed manual
and optional six-speed automatic transmission with Saab Sentronic gear
selection. Saab’s trademark luxury features, including leather upholstery, heated seats,
automatic climate and cruise control, 16 inch alloy wheels and MP3
compatibility, are also standard on all TiD models. Saab Director Australia and New Zealand, Parveen Batish, says with good
timing and excellent product he is confident the Saab 9-3 TiD range will appeal
to buyers. “With private diesel passenger car sales up 99.3 per cent in 2006, this is a
great time for Saab to launch a diesel range in Australia,” Mr Batish said. “There is a much better understanding of the benefits of diesel, both the
improvements in fuel efficiency and the strong performance you get from the high
torque engines,” he said. “For Saab to launch into the market at this time, with the three most
efficient premium diesel vehicles in their segments and the first diesel
convertible in Australia is a real coup for the brand. “To have a sedan, a wagon and a convertible all achieve fuel consumption of
between 5.8 and 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres gives Saab a real position of
strength in the diesel market.” Fuel Consumption Fuel consumption figures (ADR 81/01) for Saab 9-3 TiD range (manual) is as
