Following the successful introduction of the Cayman S, Porsche will
soon introduce to Australia a new version of the sports coupe, simply
called Cayman.
It will go on sale from August, priced from $118,000.
The new model features a 2.7-litre six-cylinder boxer engine
offering excellent response and performance. The engine produces 180 kW,
enabling the Cayman to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds
on its way to a 258 km/h top speed.
The Cayman is convincing proof that outstanding performance
statistics do not necessarily mean high fuel consumption. According
to European standards, it consumes on average 9.3 litres per 100 kms.
Thanks to Porsche VarioCam Plus, the Cayman generates 273 Nm of torque
from 4,600 to 6,000 revs. Power is transmitted via a five-speed manual
transmission with short, precise gear lever action. A six-speed manual
transmission in conjunction with Porsche Active Suspension Management
(PASM) is available as an option; as is Tiptronic S five-speed automatic
transmission with rocker switches in the steering wheel spokes for sporty
gear shifting.
The Cayman sits on unique double five-spoke design 17-inch light-alloy
wheels fitted with 205/55 tyres on 6.5-inch wide wheel rims at the front
and 235/50 tyres on 8.0-inch rims at the rear. With Porsche Stability
Management (PSM) system fitted as standard, the chassis offers impressive
levels of dynamic driving and active safety. Porsche Active Suspension
Management (PASM) system is available as an option. The system automatically
lowers the body by 10 mm and adapts the shock-absorber setting to each
particular driving situation. The driver can choose between “normal”
and “sport” programmes by pressing a button on the center console.
Other unique features of the Cayman include black brake calipers,
front-spoiler leading edges in black, a titanium-colored logo at the
rear and a single piece tailpipe.
The interior boasts a comprehensive range of standard features,
including: climate control airconditioning, leather steering wheel,
fully-adjustable leather seats with electric backrest function and 170W
nine-speaker sound system with CD changer.
Because of the mid-engine concept, it boasts two storage compartments
with a combined volume of 410 litres, just like its big brother, the Cayman
S. Along with many other storage features, this design highlights the sports
coupe’s supreme practicality.
In addition to two full-size airbags offering
the necessary level of safety protection in the event of head-on collisions,
the ingenious Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP), which features
a chest and head airbag on each side of the vehicle, also provides excellent
protection in side-on collisions.
