Porsche is continuing its range of special edition sports cars with the release of the new Boxster S Black Edition. There will be 987 units available for global consumption.

Hot on the 'heels' of the release of the 911 Black Edition models last week, the new Boxster S Black Edition continues the theme of Porsche sports car variants with added style and substance at no extra cost.

In this case the new Boxster S Black Edition gets a power and torque boost for its 3.4-litre boxer engine – 10 horsepower (seven kilowatts) and 10 Newton metres over the regular S model – to take outputs to 320 hp (235 kW) at 7,200 rpm and 370 Nm at 4,750 rpm.

The roadster also gains additional standard equipment: 19-inch black Boxster Spyder wheels, smooth leather finish Sport Design steering wheel, Bi-Xenon head lamps with dynamic cornering function and auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors.

Added style comes from the array of all-black design touches: black body, black hood, black wheels, black side air intakes, black tailpipes, black roll-over bars, black instrument panel, painted black gear selector surround and black model designation on the rear boot lid.

Highlighting this open-top Porsche as a special edition is the “Black Edition” model lettering on the stainless steel door entry guards, embossed Black Edition insignia on the fabric roof and Black Edition badge on the glove box lid.

The increase in output and power equals greater dynamics: The Boxster S Black Edition proving to be one-tenth of a second quicker at 5.2 seconds in the 0-100 km/h sprint with standard six-speed manual gearbox. Optional seven-speed PDK reduces the sprint time to 5.1 seconds.

However, the increased output and performance does not come at the expense of fuel economy; with the Boxster S Black Edition registering 9.8 Litres/100 kms in the NEDC test cycle, identical to that of the Boxster S. With optional PDK that figure is reduced to 9.4 litres/100 kms.

The Boxster S Black Edition is on sale now, priced at $132,400* for six-speed manual and $137,700* for PDK – identical pricing as the Boxster S. Deliveries commence late in April, together with the 911 Black Edition models.

NOTE: * Manufacturer's List Price (MLP) excludes dealer delivery fees and the numerous statutory charges (commonly known as on-road costs). Additionally, please note that all prices, fees and charges are subject to change without notice.
