WHAT CAR? MAGAZINE DECLARES PEUGEOT 407 AS THE MOST SECURE FAMILY CAR

Peugeot 407

2nd December, 2004

  • Remarkable 95% What Car? security rating
  • More secure than ‘many cars costing twice as much’
  • Exceeds security standards set by the British Home Office

Peugeot’s outstanding 407 has scooped yet another accolade, by being pronounced the most secure family car on the British market by What Car? magazine’s rigorous annual ‘Security Supertest’.

The test, which subjects cars to a number of ‘attack’ scenarios, also critically assesses each car’s standard security features. The Peugeot 407 scored a massive 95% overall – 30% better than its nearest rival in the same category, and came "within a whisker" of obtaining a maximum 100% score.

It was the only family car tested this year to keep out would-be-thieves for more than two minutes – the standard set by the Home Office. The car also proved impossible to drive away in the five-minute time limit, thanks to its strong immobiliser. Many features of the car came in for praise, such as the dashboard-integrated stereo, secure spare wheel, locking wheel nuts and visible VIN number. With additional features like deadlocks, a secure boot and optional laminated glass, the 407 offers an outstandingly secure package.

What Car? summarised by saying: "The 407 is the cheapest car to keep our attackers at bay this year, and the level of security outshines that of many cars costing twice as much."
