130 KW “Sport” version
Since its launch in late 2001, the 307 has set new standards within the
medium sector. With the range currently consisting of hatchback and “Touring”
derivatives, the 307 furthers the marque’s fundamental values of good looks,
dynamism and innovation. Now, with the introduction of the Coupé Cabriolet, the
307 continues this trend-setting tradition, breathing new life into the
traditional coupé and cabriolet markets. It is targeted at enthusiasts of sporty
coupés or saloons who wish to combine driving excitement with the traditional
stylish appeal of ‘wind in the hair’ open-top motoring.
The embodiment of driving pleasure
With the 307 CC, Peugeot offers four people the chance to share in the
pleasure of driving in a dynamic and distinguished coupé, which - at the touch
of a button - can be transformed into an authentic and elegant cabriolet.
Derived from the 307 hatchback platform and retaining the latter’s wheelbase,
the 307 CC differs only in that its rear overhang is longer by 14 cm, extending
the overall length to 4.34 m. Much of the design work has focused on exploiting
and ensuring that the requirements of customers in this category are met to the
highest possible standard.
To successfully realise the CC concept on the 307, the challenge was to
combine:
- The refinement of two elegant and distinguished body styles, the coupé and
cabriolet, in a single model capable of seating four people and endowed with as
large a boot as possible.
- The design of a retractable rigid roof, made as compact as possible and
equipped with a fully automatic mechanism offering maximum convenience and
security.
- A natural dynamism coupled with optimum safety.
- A maximum level of protection for all occupants - optimised rigid structure
and appropriate means of restraint, including rollover protection.
- An exclusive and high-tech personality reminiscent of the world of the
luxury sports car.
An elegant 4-seater coupé cabriolet...
With the roof either up or down, the luxurious passenger compartment not only
instills a sense of robustness and protection, but also spaciousness. At the
front, two sports seats with multiple adjustments offer generous accommodation,
with a full 230 mm of movement on the seat slides. The two rear seats, shaped
and welcoming, and generously equipped with individual safety and comfort
equipment, are a testimony to the attention paid to each occupant.
Hidden from view, inside the boot with a capacity of 350 l for the coupé and
204 l for the cabriolet, is an easily accessible luggage space that is isolated
from the roof mechanism components. The boot accommodates a spare wheel
identical in size to the standard fit, housed in a well under the floor as on
the 307 hatchback. A screen separates the space reserved for luggage from that
reserved for the folded roof in the cabriolet configuration.
...with a magic roof...
The key elements in the change from coupé to cabriolet - the rigid roof, the
long, curved glass rear windscreen - retract into the boot in an innovative and
entirely automatic process. The complete cycle to change from coupé to cabriolet
or vice versa lasts no longer than 25 seconds (including the optional raising of
windows) and can even be carried out while driving at speeds of up to 10 km/h.
Engines
Two engines are available, and offer two distinct versions
in terms of presentation and equipment. Both engines have the same 2.0 litre
(1997 cc) capacity and 16 valves.
2.0-litre, 100kW
This engine develops 100 kW at 6,000 rpm and 190
Nm of torque at 4,150 rpm. It is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a
‘Tiptronic’ style automatic, auto adaptive gearbox with sequential control.
2.0-litre, 130kW
The second engine develops 130 kW at 7,000 rpm and
202 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm and is only available with a 5-speed manual
gearbox. First seen in the 206 GTi 180, this engine features a variable valve
timing system (VVT) to ensure maximum driving pleasure.
Suspension and Chassis
As on the hatchback and the Touring, careful
attention has been paid to the wheels and suspension, which rely on proven
technologies, with a reversed MacPherson front suspension, a rear suspension
with a semi-deformable cross member and electro-hydraulic variable power
steering. Only the calibration of the electro-hydraulic variable power steering
has been adapted to the 307 CC, to match the weight and specification of the
different engines.
With large 16” or 17” alloy wheels, emergency braking assistance (EBA) and
electronic stability programme (ESP) all available as standard, the 307 CC
guarantees dynamic and safe road holding.
Safety
The 307 CC has a rigid structure that ensures protection for
the occupants, as testified by the four stars recently obtained in the EuroNcap
classification. In addition, careful consideration has been given to possible
rollover situations that are often of concern to cabriolet customers.
The bodyshell has been strengthened to provide protection and absorption of
forces in the event of an impact. The inclusion of a reinforced rear bulkhead
ensures the structure is as rigid as possible. In the event of the vehicle
rolling over, the rear bulkhead contains the very latest generation of
telescopic roll over bars with electronic rollover detection that, along with
reinforcement bars “embedded” in the windscreen pillars, ensures maximum
protection for all occupants. The front occupants also benefit from class
leading safety equipment, with SMART front air bags, head/chest side air bags,
3-point seat belts with force limiters, as well as the full array of protective
equipment featured on the 307 range.
THE PEUGEOT 307 CC THE DREAM…LIVES ON
The elegance, power and emotion synonymous with the 307 CC concept car have
been incorporated in their entirety in the new 307 CC.
Drawing on the legacy of the 307 family, the 307 CC exhibits not only a
new-style of architecture but – essential for this type of vehicle – the results
of extensive research into safety functionality and comfort. It also lays claim,
in the interior, to an exclusive, dynamic personality which, on certain models,
particularly with leather, propels it into the universe of luxury cars with a
sporty ambience.
Two shapes evocative of liberty, rivaling each other in elegance… The
Coupé – powerful and boasting a long pedigree
The thrusting front extends
up to the remarkably sloping windscreen which is flanked by the windscreen
pillars. From this point the pronounced arch shape spreads out to the tapered
rear quarter panels, leading the eye to a rear screen which not only crowns the
rear of the vehicle but curves gracefully. Finally the powerful, capacious boot,
with a dynamic appearance owing much to its strong lines, imparts balance to the
whole vehicle. The diagonal diode lights bring a unifying aspect to the rear.
The Cabriolet – pure emotion
When the roof retracts, taking with it
the rear screen and the rear quarter panels, the Cabriolet stretches out,
revealing the sensual allure of its shapely interior with ample accommodation
for all four occupants.
This opulent passenger compartment combines a distinct feeling of strength
and protection.
Magic!……switching from one version to the other
In 25 seconds the
307 CC can be transformed from a Coupé to a Cabriolet with a single press of a
button. The electronically controlled electro-hydraulic system with multiplexing
provides all the actuation of the folding roof mechanism, including the front
locking, which does not require manual operation.
The sophisticated mechanism of the 307 CC is thus endowed with functional and
aesthetic qualities that are both persuasive and fascinating.
Designed in accordance with exact guidelines, the system essentially
comprises an electro-pump unit, a “pivot tube”, five cylinders, four
multi-function linkages, and twelve switches which combine to operate the roof
and the “boot/trunk” assembly at the same time as the rear screen, the latter
detaching itself from the rear quarter panels and positioning itself in such a
way that the boot volume is maximised.
…an unexpected conspiracy between door and the window
Magic! The
system can detect a hand behind the handle before it has even grasped it to open
the door. This ingenious process causes the window to drop a few millimetres
before opening so that it separates from the seal joint. This “short drop”
phenomenon is managed by a capacitor sensor which is housed in the door handles
.…the centralised “disappearance” of all four windows
This system
allows even faster transformation into a Cabriolet. A single press on a button
located on the centre console and as if by magic – all four windows lower
simultaneously by the sequential system. Each of the four occupants, however, is
able to operate their window independently.
…opening the boot
A long press on the HF remote control “unlocking”
button and the boot is partially opened by remote control; all that is required
is to lift the cover to access the boot. Manual opening is facilitated by
pressing the central “0” of the 307 badge … a feature borrowed from the 607.
An absolute masterpiece, both architecturally and stylistically
The
challenge was to offer, within moderate overall dimensions, a real four-seater
Coupé which could be transformed into an authentic Cabriolet, an optimum level
of safety and with the designs always pleasing to the eye and exuding harmony,
whatever the configuration.
The whole of the front cabin, as well as the driver’s position has been
reworked. In fact, from the beginning of the project, the plan was to
accommodate low seats (- 40 mm) to provide a driving position conforming to that
which is usually encountered on a sporty Cabriolet or Coupé. Hence the passenger
compartment has been maximised for two reasons: to accommodate up to four
occupants and at the same time to be able to specify roof dimensions compatible
with folding down the panels which constitute the roof and fitting them into the
boot. In addition, the rear part of the passenger compartment has, among other
things, been modified to provide the installation of mechanical roof brackets in
a robust housing.
The front and rear seats may have been lowered by 40 mm in relation to those
of the saloon, but the front seat sliders retain their long travel of 230 mm,
allowing them to be pushed back an exceptional distance. At the rear, the H
point of the two occupants moves forward 80 mm and seats become more upright to
free a space which is essential for sitting a boxed section with a triple role:
transverse stiffening, integration of two roof bars which are triggered in the
event of roll-over, and a bracket for anchoring the roof mechanisms on the
structure.
At this level, the width both at elbow and shoulder level is approximately
the same as for the saloon.
All these dimensions allow the 307 CC to remain within its segment at the
lower end of the medium range, because only the rear overhang is lengthened by
14 cm, taking the overall length to 4.34 m without changing the wheelbase (2.61
m).
To the rear of this boxed area is the boot, which possesses a
parallelepipedic volume 204 litres in the Cabriolet and 350 l in the Coupé. The
“non-operational” volume of the boot is required by certain mechanisms and -
depending on whether a Coupé or Cabriolet configuration - by articulated
housings, the telescopic rear screen supports, the electro-pump, as well as the
control module for all the movable parts. Like the estate, a full size spare
wheel is fitted in the base of the boot.
The height of the vehicle is lowered by 12 mm compared with the saloon; its
overall height is now 1.42 m (– 9 cm).
Allow yourself a great driving experience in the knowledge that you are
quite safe……Limiting the consequences of impacts
Produced on the platform
of the 307 - a vehicle recognised for its performance in terms of strength,
having been rigorously tested for road holding - the structure of the 307 CC has
been dimensioned and adapted according to the architectural constraints of this
shape, specifically to guarantee a satisfactory EuroNCAP classification for
Coupé configurations, as is also the case for the Cabriolet configurations. In
view of this, and to reduce various risks of front or side impacts, stiffeners
have been added to the centre pillars and to the doors, where a metal guide
forward of their capping distributes the loads in the event of a front impact.
Thick tubes incorporated in the windscreen pillars are literally planted in
the structure to protect the front passengers in the event of roll-over.
These stiffeners are complemented by two metal bows concealed in the head
restraints. These are activated when necessary, by the intermediary of a
pyrotechnic device which simultaneously actuates the front seat belt
pretensioners.
Protected by means of these “heavyweight” devices, passenger safety is also
enhanced by safety components common to the other 307 models (adaptive front air
bags, active front seat backs – anti whiplash – an active footrest, four seat
belts with three anchorage points and force limiters, and Isofix child seat
fixings in the rear seats). Specifically designed and perfected for the 307 CC,
the side air bags are of the head/chest type.
…Reducing the risks of impacts
The 307 CC carries over the range of
active safety equipment from the saloon, fitting it as standard on all models.
This includes the wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability
programme (ESP), emergency brake assist (EBA) and automatic switching on of the
hazard warning lights in the event of rapid deceleration.
An impressive range of mechanical equipment; a source of unlimited dynamic
energy
Two sixteen-valve 2.0 l engines will be fitted to the 307 CC:
- the sixteen-valve 2.0 l engine – 100 kW – 190 Nm with a five speed manual
gearbox or a sequentially controlled “Porsche Tiptronic system” .
- sixteen valve 130 kW – 202 Nm 2.0 l engine coupled to a 5-speed manual box
As on all 307 vehicles, high performance suspension is in place, as well as
modulated power steering and light alloy wheels fitted with 16” or 17” tyres.
Complemented by the lower body and the rigid structure, the whole 307 CC
suspension conveys, without a hint of ostentation, an authentic dynamic energy,
indispensable in a “pleasure” vehicle.
What a pleasure to be in this vehicle!
It is an undeniable pleasure
to sit in a 307 CC. The passenger compartment provides four comfortable seats –
two sports seats at the front, carried over from the XSi saloon but lower, and
two specially sculpted ones at the rear – as well as a cube shaped boot
concealing the full-size spare wheel.
This boot provides a storage volume of 350 l (as the Coupé), and 204 l (as
the Cabriolet).
Eye-catching trim
The trim adds its own temptation for you to take
your seat in the vehicle. It is a real visual treat.
There is a colour scheme for each engine:
- a dynamic predominantly black or blue scheme, for the seats and the fascia
panel of the 2.0 l 100 kW model.
- a determinedly sporty scheme for the 2.0 l 130 kW model, characterised by
seats trimmed with honeycomb fabric and leather surround. A metallic strip in
the seat back fabric reinforces the individuality of the scheme.
Each of these versions, however, can be trimmed to have an individual look
with an even greater top-of-the-range impact.
This look is known as ‘all leather’ and consists of a leather covered fascia
panel, door caps and arm rests, as well as the seats. This sensually visual
richness is expressed by four ambiances, each with its individual personality:
palimbro leather – beige, classic refinement
llama leather – light grey,
smooth perforated leather, very contemporary .
fusion leather – a red and
black contrasting scheme, authentically sporty .
titanium leather – all
black, unbeatable for teaming with all the body colours.
Exclusive interior schemes to make a statement about your personality
In the driver’s seat, the 307 CC is distinguished from the rest of the 307
family by a leather steering wheel with three metallic inserts and an instrument
panel which has all the appearance of contemporary time-pieces, boasting dials
with a white background encircled with chrome - just like being surrounded with
chronometers.
Aluminium and metal are everywhere in the passenger compartment, on the pedal
pads and the foot rest, the gear lever knob, the monogrammed door sills, the
instrument panel, the vents. For the benefit of passengers when the car is
moving and when exiting the rear seats, three new hand grips are trimmed with a
metal ring. Every detail confirms the 307 CC’s top of the range exclusivity.
Technology serving both the useful and the pleasurable Indispensable
aids
A wealth of equipment is available to the driver to provide perfect
visibility, together with total comfort and safety, both on the road and when
parking.
One example is the new twin-function sensor (rain and brightness sensor)
which simultaneously controls the automatic windscreen wiper and the automatic
switching on of the headlamps, at a stroke providing increased comfort and
safety. Others are the new electro chrome interior mirror and the innovative
flat blade windscreen wipers. The parking aid system with four sensors for
reversing and automatic folding down of the exterior mirrors also play their
part in the quality of presentation of this vehicle.
The follow-me-home lighting system is a great boon to all passengers,
providing them with better visibility when they climb out of the vehicle at
night.
Cruise control regulates the speed automatically, making life easier for the
driver.
A highly sought after degree of comfort
A great deal of research
resulted in the level of temperature control available on both the Coupé and the
Cabriolet, with automatic regulation climate control and a tinted rear screen as
standard. The thickness of the side windows and the windscreen also contribute
to the acoustic comfort on the Coupé.
On the Cabriolet, the shape of the windscreen and its slope, which is more
sharply raked than on the saloon, dramatically streamline the vehicle, cutting
down the air noise in the passenger compartment. A mesh “windstop” is available
as an option and its four folding sections means that it can easily be stored in
the base of the boot.
On-board communication
Fitted with a mono CD audio system as
standard, with six speakers and an invisible radio aerial, it is also possible
for the 307 CC to be equipped with telematic equipment, with a car phone and a
satellite navigation system linked to manual or automatic emergency and
assistance services. The information is displayed on a 7” (16/9) monochrome or
colour screen.
EW10 J4
This engine, which was introduced in 1999, is now fitted to
various models in the 206 – 307 – 406 – 807 ranges. It is a four cylinder engine
in light alloy with a sixteen valve cylinder head, two overhead camshafts,
sequential injection and twin-static ignition. With a capacity of 1.997 cm3 ,
this engine develops power of 100 kW at 6 000 rpm which, with a maximum torque
of 190 Nm at 4 100 rpm, enables it to achieve an excellent
performance/consumption ratio.
With a manual 5-speed box the following is possible (driver only)
.
maximum speed of 207 km/h. .
acceleration:
- 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9
s
- 1 000 m in 32.1 s from a standing start.
Combined consumption of 8.2
l/100 km.
With an “AL4 Auto-adaptive” automatic gearbox the following is possible
(driver only)
maximum speed of 204 km/h. . acceleration:
- 0 to 100 km/h in 12.7 s
- 1 000 m in 33.9 s from a standing start. .
EW10 J4S
This is the most powerful engine of the 2 litres EW
generation. Directly derived from the 100 kW version, it is, however,
distinguished from it basically by its top part “cylinder head – intake –
exhaust – engine management” allowing it to develop a maximum power of 130 kW at
7 000 rpm and a maximum torque of 202 Nm at 4 750 rpm. Even at an engine speed
of 2 000 rpm, this engine produces a torque of 160 Nm, almost 80% of the maximum
torque available.
On this new engine, the intake camshaft is fitted with a permanently variable
timing system, with an angular variation which can develop between 0° and 40° in
relation to the crankshaft setting. This occurs degree by degree, allowing
optimal filling of the combustion chambers whatever the engine speed. This
feature makes the engine at one and the same time both flexible and powerful,
enabling the following provisional performance figures calculated with a 5-speed
manual gearbox to be attained (driver only)
Maximum speed of 225 km/h. .
Acceleration:
- 0 to 100 km/h in 10.0 s
- 1 000 m in 29.8 s from a standing start. .
Principal transmission and engines technical features
The 307 CC is
equipped for both engines (100 and 130 kW) with a type BE4 5-speed manual
gearbox, with transmission lengths which have been selected in terms of the
performance of each engine and its individual character. They are fitted with a
hydraulically controlled 230 mm diameter clutch disc. A 4-speed automatic
gearbox of the AL4 auto adaptive type with a “Porsche Tiptronic System” is also
available on the 100 kW version.
Suspension
For its suspension, the 307 CC has the benefit of
technology used from the launch of the 307 saloon, with specific settings to
obtain a satisfactory comfort/road holding compromise, and taking into account
the performance and weights of the vehicle. The suspension, with four
independent wheels and long travel, has a front axle of the inverted McPherson
type, with a decoupled 22 mm Ø anti-roll bar and rear suspension with deformable
cross bar in 6 mm thick metal. A Bosch 5.7 type Electronic Stability Programme
is offered as standard, with the option on the 130 kW of switching it off. The
307 steering, of the rack and pinion/steering rack type, possesses an integral
hydraulic ram and variable assistance. This is provided by a hydraulic
electro-pump, with the amount of pressure exerted on the steering rack modulated
according to the vehicle speed, the angular speed of the steering wheel and the
steering oil temperature.
Braking
This is provided by four discs – two ventilated discs at
the front – (283 mm in diameter and 26mm thick on the 100 kW version – 302 mm in
diameter and 28 mm thick on the 130 kW version). At the rear are two solid discs
(247 mm in diameter and 9 mm thick). All the versions are fitted as standard
with a Bosch 5.7 Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) allowing braking functions
to be linked: anti-lock braking system (ABS), anti-skid (ASR) and emergency
brake assist (EBA).
An electronic brake force distributor divides the pressure between the front
and the rear, and at the rear, between the right and left sides.
