Morgan AeroMax sold out at Geneva Motor Show
22nd March, 2007 | ||||
As the Geneva Motor Show closed its doors, so the Morgan Motor Company
closed the order books for the amazing Morgan AeroMax coupe. Only 100 of these remarkable cars will be built in 2008 and 2009. A month prior to the Geneva Motor Show, there were still 40 production
slots left, all for build in 2009, but by mid-way through the show, only
12 slots remained. By the end of the show, all were taken, sadly none for
Australia. Those that missed out can console themselves by the fact that the Morgan
Aero 8 roadster, on which the AeroMax is based, remains in production and
after a 3-year hiatus from the Australian market due to ADR requirements,
the Aero 8 is now once more available. Now in its third model, the Aero 8 sports a different engine and transmission
from the original car, plus a host of styling and specification enhancements,
not the least of which is a widening of the cockpit by 100 mm. The high level of
standard comfort and safety specification features expected from discerning
buyers in the over $200,000 market are included in the standard specification of
the Aero 8. What makes the individualistic Aero 8 so different from its competitors is the
highly advanced aluminium chassis and patented independent double wishbone rear
suspension, the latter providing a surprisingly high level of ride comfort, not
usually expected from a high performance sports car. At only 1,145 kg in total
weight, the Morgan Aero 8 is the lightest production V8 powered car in the world.
This results in effortless performance from the sophisticated 4.4 litre BMW engine
and a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of only 4.5 seconds. In comparison to the $379,000 AeroMax, the open top Morgan Aero 8 looks
like rather good value at a recommended retail price of $234,000. |
