Mitsubishi Colt Cabriolet

1st November, 2006

Mitsubishi Colt Turbo Cabriolet

The Mitsubishi Colt range is completed with the release of the Colt Cabriolet. Shown for the first time in Australia at the Australian International Motor Show, the sporty Colt Cabriolet, fresh from Europe, ensures the Colt buyer has a full range, from economical base model to the pure performance of the Colt Ralliart and now the Colt Cabriolet to choose from.

The Colt Cabriolet is available with either a naturally aspirated 1.5 litre DOHC engine with MIVEC (Mitsubishi's variable valve timing) or a turbocharged and intercooled variant for those people that want some "go" with their "show". Both models come with a German precision GETRAG 5-speed manual transmission.

The sporty Colt Cabriolet is a collaboration between Mitsubishi and the legendary Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina and is based on the CZ2 concept car that was originally shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2003.

Built at Pininfarina's Bairo plant near Turin in Italy, the Colt Cabriolet family has the stereotypical pizzazz normally associated with Italian cars, while maintaining the stringent quality standards associated with Japanese-built cars.

The naturally aspirated 1.5 litre engine develops 80 kW of power at 6,000 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, while the turbo version develops 110 kW of power at 6,000 rpm and 210 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Both engines are Euro 4 compliant and are mated to a 5-speed manual GETRAG transmission. The naturally aspirated version delivers a miserly 6.6 litres/100 kms and the turbo version delivers a pleasing 7.1 litres/100 kms.

Colt's suspension is the tried and true MacPherson strut with coil over damper front suspension with a H-shaped torsion beam rear suspension. It has been lowered and tuned for the sporty Ralliart and Cabriolet Turbo variants.

All Colts have a braking package consistent with their performance potential and ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist are standard.

Colt Cabriolet is available in six stylish and modern colours - Urban Silver(M), Oriental Orange (P), Carmin Red (M), Ocean Blue (P), Race Blue(P) and Espresso Black. The interior trim is either Energetic Orange or Lounge Grey fabric (depending on external colour) for the naturally aspirated variants and smart Athletic Leather for the turbo version.

Price is $32,990 (RRP) for the naturally aspirated model and $37,990 (RRP) for the turbo version.

When the various Colt's comprehensive standard specification and feature lists are added to its fuel economy and Mitsubishi's industry-leading 5 year/130,000 kms bumper-to-bumper, and 10 year/160,000 kms non-transferrable drive-train warranty it makes a very attractive purchase proposition for a range of consumers with different requirements. All Colts now come with 5-year Roadside Assist as standard.

Colt ES manual, LS manual and CVT auto, VRX manual and CVT auto plus the new Colt Cabriolet are all available now from Mitsubishi's 200-strong national dealer network.
