8th March, 2006 Mitsubishi's Colt has received an upgrade for 2006. The '06 Colt gets a new 1.5 litre all-alloy DOHC four-cylinder engine with MIVEC (Mitsubishi's variable valve timing) that replaces the previous 1.5 litre cast iron block engine. The new engine is Euro 3 compliant and boasts maximum power of 77kW at 6,000 rpm (up 5kW) and 141Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm (up 9Nm) at lower RPM (was 4,250 rpm). Even with the increase in power and torque the '06 Colt has enhanced its reputation as a "green". It enjoys a 4-star rating from the Green Vehicle Guide, and its fuel economy has improved to 5.6 litres/100 kms (down from 6.4 litres/100 kms). The model designations have been amended, so that the range is now the LS and VRX (replacing the XLS). Both models get revised styling for the front and rear bumpers, grille and lower grille, and the rear combination lamps also project a more sporty appearance. The fuel tank capacity has increased form 42 to 45 litres, and the battery is now 85 amp capacity. Inside, the VRX gets sports seats and alloy pedals, while the LS gets a tacho as standard fitment. The 'smart seat' compartment in the passenger-side front seat of both models has been eliminated, but there is new seat trim and white-faced sports dials (were blue) that now give the interior a more sporty appearance. Outside the VRX gets a chrome exhaust extension and argent headlight extensions to set it apart, and there have some changes to the colour palette. Red Metallic and Gunmetal Mica replace Guava, Chilli and Blueberry. The range is now: White Solid *Denotes new colour
Colt's standard features include continuously variable transmission, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, air conditioning, power steering, power windows (on all windows), power exterior mirrors with fold control, remote keyless entry, engine immobiliser, AM/FM radio/single CD audio unit with four speakers, driver and passenger air bags, three-point seat belts in all outer positions with the front seat belts having pre-tensioners and force limiters with adjustable anchorage points, 50:50 split-fold rear seat, speed sensitive two-speed windscreen wipers with intermittent control, rear window wiper and washer with intermittent control. Prices remain at $18,990 for the LS and $20,990 for the VRX, which represents great value for money for a small car with a large amount of flexible interior room and features.
