Mitsubishi Motors’ popular city-sized SUV, the ASX, has gained a new
frugal 4WD diesel automatic variant.
Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) CEO, Mutsuhiro Oshikiri, recently announced the addition of a new 4WD
diesel automatic to the ASX line up that reflects Mitsubishi Motors’ global direction of offering capable, fuel
efficient, eco-friendly products that are fun to drive.
“The ASX is a popular vehicle in the Australian market and we are confident the addition of this economical diesel
automatic model will appeal to customers who want a versatile and stylish compact SUV that sports all the features and is
value for money.” Oshikiri said.
The new ASX 4WD diesel automatic sports Mitsubishi’s 2.2L four-cylinder turbo-charged intercooled diesel engine,
matched to a six-speed transmission with Sport Mode. It delivers power of 110kW @ 3,500 rpm, 360Nm of torque @ 1,500 -
2,750rpm rated with a prudent 5.8l/100km combined fuel economy. With a low compression ratio of 14.9:1, it meets
stringent European diesel emission regulations while providing superior environmental performance.
The engine incorporates an innovative shift schedule, INVECS-II Smart Logic which optimises gear selection in response
to driving conditions. With a curb weight of 1,530kg, the 2.2L engine has a towing capacity of up to 1,400kg making the
Mitsubishi ASX a compact SUV that has grunt.
Available in two specification levels, an entry level model and a premium Aspire variant, the ASX 4WD diesel automatic
is loaded with all the safety and comfort features one should expect of a compact SUV.
The ASX range has a long list of advanced safety features and holds a five-star ANCAP safety rating. The ASX has seven
SRS airbags including front, side and passenger, curtain and driver knee protection. The ASX 4WD diesel automatic comes
with Mitsubishi’s All Wheel Control (AWC) allowing the driver to select 2WD for greater efficiency, 4WD if increased
traction is needed and a 4WD Lock mode which provides more torque to the rear wheels for rough road driving.
The ASX uses Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body system. The RISE body system realises a
highly rigid body structure whilst at the same time optimising weight. Connecting points between the A,B and C pillars
and roof are constructed in closed section with reinforcements arranged in a ring structure maximising structural
strength. Collision absorbing joints offer increased protection for the passengers within.
There is a myriad of automatic safety technology which is standard across the ASX range including Active Stability
Control (ASC), Active Traction Control (ATC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD),
Smart Brake and Hill Start Control (HSC).
In the cabin the ASX line-up is fitted with a new generation restraint system with all seating positions receiving
three point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts, Auto Locking Retractor (ALR) seatbelts on outbound rear seats,
ISOFIX child restraint anchorage points and front seatbelt pretentioners with force limiters fitted with height
adjustable shoulder anchorage points.
The ASX 4WD diesel automatic is fitted with a rear-view camera with parking reference lines as standard for both the
base and Aspire 4WD ASX diesel automatic, with a wide range of body matching colours for the rear sensors.

The reversing camera image is displayed in the 6.1” QVGA full colour touch screen integrated into Mitsubishi’s LINK
audio system that offers AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 player, auxiliary and USB inputs with full iPod control, voice control and
full Bluetooth® 2.0 connectivity for media streaming and hands-free phone use.
The Aspire model gains the Mitsubishi Multi Communication System (MMCS) as standard, utilising a larger 7” colour
touchscreen and adds satellite navigation with 3D mapping functionality and SD Card input.
The audio system is just part of the long list of features inside the roomy five-seat cabin. The ASX combines the
benefits of a high driving position, generous legroom and a large flexible cargo space with the practicalities of a small
car.
The standard comfort and convenience specifications offer an extensive array of equipment including climate control
air conditioning with rear seat ducts, cruise control, central door locking with keyless entry, power windows and
exterior mirrors, leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, leather bound gearshift, chrome interior door
handles, and 60/40-split fold and recline rear seats. With a generous cargo space of 416L with all seats up and when all
seats are flat the load area becomes a spacious 1,158L for the base and 1,109L for the Aspire.
The Aspire gains leather seat trim, Smart Key entry with a one touch start system, automatic rain sensing wipers,
automatic dusk sensing headlights, power driver’s seat with the front row receiving heated seats and a panoramic roof
with LED lighting strip.
The exterior of the ASX 4WD diesel automatic doesn’t miss out with the entry level model sporting 16” ten-spoke alloy
wheels, body colour door handles and door mirrors with an integrated turn indicator and a rear roof spoiler with a high
mount stop lamp. The Aspire receives 17” ten-spoke alloy wheels, front fog lamps with a chrome lamp bezel, a chrome
exhaust tip and privacy glass.
The Mitsubishi ASX 4WD 2.2L diesel automatic offers all the safety and equipment you expect in a stylish and versatile
city-sized SUV with the added bonus of value for money and exceptional fuel economy.
A range of colours including Starlight, Ironbark, White, Cool Silver, Black, Red and Titanium is available.

Mitsubishi offers a five year/130,000 km new vehicle warranty; one year Roadside Assist (extendable when car serviced
by Mitsubishi dealer in accordance with stated conditions); and Capped Price Servicing for the first four years or 60,000
