Mitsubishi 380 Sells For $100,000

23rd April, 2008

Mitsubishi 380 - final production

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) confirmed today the final build 380 sedan has sold at a dealer auction to John Hughes Mitsubishi, Perth, for the unprecedented sum of $100,000.

Mitsubishi, which recently announced its move to a fully imported product line-up in the Australian market, confirmed the proceeds from the auction would be donated to charities to be named following consultation with the winning bidder.

Robert McEniry, chief executive officer and president of MMAL officiated at the auction along with more than one hundred representatives from the company’s staff and national dealer network who attended either in person, on the telephone, or via the internet.

“There has been tremendous interest in the fate of the last 380, and this is a fitting result for such a fantastic and well built car,” Mr McEniry said.

The vehicle, a silver Platinum model 380 sedan, was at the centre of a hotly contested bidding war between several interested dealerships from right around Australia. Two of the company’s top retail sites – John Hughes Mitsubishi in Perth, WA, and Agostino’s Mitsubishi in Adelaide, SA, were the final contenders for the vehicle, with Hughes Mitsubishi triumphing via a final six-figured offer.

A victorious John Hughes, owner of the Perth dealership, was elated at his acquisition.

“Mitsubishi’s manufacturing history in Australia is a very proud one, and it is an honour to own this significant vehicle,” Mr Hughes said.

Beneficiaries from the auction will be confirmed and announced within the next week.
