MG Adds New "Z" Car to Range |
The new MG ZS 180 made its Australian debut, yesterday, in Sydney, at the 2004 Australian International Motor Show. |
8th October, 2004 Following hard on the heels of the successful range of MG ZT models (V6, V6 supercharged and V8), Motor Group Australia adds another vehicle to the dynamic “Z” range of MG sports sedans. The new MG ZS 180 is the latest embodiment of MG’s 80-year-old tradition of constructing true driver’s cars. Not only does the MG ZS 180 have a supremely dynamic nature, it has the distinctive lines and style to create a truly attractive sports saloon. Using the sparkling 2.5 litre V6 all alloy quad-cam VIS engine found in its larger normally aspirated MG ZT sibling, the ZS delivers 133 kW at 6,500 rpm, and develops 240 Nm at 4,000 rpm, making it a truly competitive car in the mid sized European sports sedan class. The available power is perfectly complemented by taut dynamics – all independent suspension with anti-dive & anti-squat geometry, featuring double wishbone with McPherson struts, coil springs & anti-roll bar at the front, and independent multi-link suspension with anti-roll bar at the rear. The MG ZS 180 also fitted with a quick ratio sports steering; ensuring smooth accurate responses all the time, under all conditions. The MG ZS has a top speed of 225 km/h, and takes only 7.4 seconds to reach 100km/h, aided by the slick Getrag 5 speed transmission. Of equal importance is the ZS’ stopping power; the Bosch 4 channel electronic ABS with EBD; sporting 282mm ventilated front discs and 260 mm discs at the rear deliver excellent braking whatever the conditions. To round out the overall dynamics, the ZS has as standard 17” 11-spoke alloy wheels, fitted with 205/45 R17 tyres. The style and appearance of the MG ZS match its driving dynamics. From the sculpted “family” front grille and twin lens headlamps through the aerodynamic body kit incorporating front & rear wheel arch spats, fender vents and “shark-gill” side vents to the rear lip boot spoiler, everything has been designed to enhance the car’s road going abilities. This design ethos is carried through to the interior of the ZS. All features have been designed not only to underpin driving practicality (major switchgear falls perfectly to hand), but also to provide a truly sporting driving environment. The fascia incorporates satin chrome finished rotary air vents, with the console featuring soft-touch membrane switches. The most important part of any sporting car’s interior – the seats – has been specially designed to augment the driving experience. The sports shaped and styled seats with leather bolsters have height and lumbar adjustments, providing the perfect driving stance, no matter what the driver’s dimensions are. Both the steering wheel and gear knob are finished in leather, giving a practical and stylish finish to the “hands-on” experience. Full leather seats are available as an optional extra. Other creature comforts include automatic climate control air conditioning (complete with pollen filter), six-speaker sound system with CD Player, power windows and mirrors, tinted glass, driver and passenger airbags as well as front seat mounted side airbags. In summary, Michel DeVriendt, Managing Director of Motor Group Australia said, “The MG ZS is a car that perfectly represents the 80-year tradition of accessible, enjoyable and rewarding driving experiences delivered by MG. I am proud to add this car to the MG range, and am pleased to introduce yet another real driving enthusiast’s car to the Australian market”. With its October launch closely coinciding with the 5% import duty reduction anticipated January 1st, MG Rover Australia is launching the MG ZS 180 at 2005 price points. The Recommended Retail Price of the MG ZS 180 is $39,990*. Optional full leather seats will be available at $2,500. *Recommended Retail price only. Excludes dealer and statutory charges.
