20th September, 2005
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class will now be offered with two exciting new V6
engines, the E 280 available in both saloon and estate and the E 280 CDI (diesel
variant), available for the saloon, further improving the offerings available in
this model. In addition, the standard specification has been improved for the
E-Class range and the sports and AMG sports packages have been extended
to include both E 280 engines.
Increased dynamic performance is guaranteed with the E 280 and E 280 CDI,
which replace the E 240 and E 270 CDI respectively. Both engines come standard
with the seven-speed 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission, which provides more
powerful acceleration, faster sprints and lower fuel consumption.
From the 2,996 cm3 of displacement, the E 280 petrol variant
engine generates 170kW and delivers a maximum torque of 300Nm from 2,400.
Drivers can take advantage of this torque at a wide range of engine speeds up to
5,000rpm. The E 280 sprints from zero to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds.
With 140kW of power, 440Nm of torque and fuel consumption of only 7.5 litres
per 100 kilometres (ADR 81/01) represent impressive performance figures for the
Mercedes-Benz diesel engine. The E 280 CDI, which replaces the straight five
unit previously used, provides significant improvement over its predessor model,
thereby ensuring faster acceleration, more powerful sprints and a higher maximum
speed.
“These two new engines offer buyers additional power coupled with the pure
luxury of the highly desirable E-Class,” said Horst von Sanden, managing
director of Mercedes Car Group in Australia.
All E-Class models, including the E 200 KOMPRESSOR, E 280, E 280 CDI, E 350,
E 500 and E 55 AMG, will now come standard with NECK-PRO crash-responsive head
restraints for the front seats. Both the E 280 and E 280 CDI will now also come
standard with parameter steering on top of the specification of their
predecessor models. The ELEGANCE package also now becomes standard on the E 280.
A TV tuner for analogue and digital reception will now join the list of
standard appointments in the E 500 and E 55 AMG, with the E 55 AMG additionally
receiving an anti-theft alarm system and Harman Kardon LOGIC7 sound system.
The AVANTGARDE style package will now receive extra
features adding a sportier feel: 17” light alloy wheels; bi-xenon headlights;
sports suspension; and steering wheel gear shift buttons.
The popular sports package and AMG sports package are now extended to both E
280 engines. Pricing for the sports package range from $2,000 through to $4,900
depending on the model.
