Mercedes-AMG is continuing its strategic model initiative with the launch of four models powered by the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine - the E 63 AMG saloon, the CLS 63 AMG 4-door coupé, the ML 63 AMG SUV and the CLK 63 AMG, available in both coupé and cabriolet. As a completely independent development which guarantees dynamic progress, this high-revving, naturally aspirated engine develops a peak output of 378 kW in the E 63 AMG and CLS 63 AMG, thus setting yet another milestone in engine performance. The Mercedes Car Group's high-performance brand has a unique product portfolio – including sporty cabriolets, coupés, roadsters, saloons and SUVs. “These three famous letters are the ultimate synonym for cutting-edge technology, performance and exclusivity”, said Horst von Sanden, managing director for Mercedes Car Group in Australia. “AMG’s quest for performance and precision is a permanent one and the qualities that underpin this international reputation make it one of the most sought-after sports car brands in the world." “The addition of the new AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine to the model range is a special occasion, and it represents a genuine transfer of technology and engineering success from the race track to the road." “After all, this engine has been almost forty years in the making,” concluded von Sanden. Based in Affalterbach (near Stuttgart), AMG has been professionally enhancing Mercedes-Benz cars since 1967 and is widely regarded as a pioneer in this field. The surprise victory achieved by the 300 SEL 6.8 AMG in the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps in 1971 brought AMG world fame overnight. Mercedes-AMG no longer supplies its customers with cars that are merely enhanced versions of their series-production counterparts. A Mercedes-AMG model is a complete and finished article in its own right, designed as soon as a new Mercedes-Benz model series starts to take shape, as can be seen in every detail. The fully-owned DaimlerChrysler subsidiary is responsible for all development processes relating to the chassis, engine, powertrain, suspension, brakes, electronics, aerodynamics, interior and design, up to and including final release of the AMG model. In addition, Mercedes-AMG GmbH has complete autonomy for its marketing and sales-related activities. At the heart of all activities, however, is the heart of the machine: the engine. Mercedes-AMG has always worked tirelessly to optimise its core expertise, which lies in the development and production of high-powered engines. The specialists who produce the AMG V8 and V12 powerplants at the AMG engine manufacturing facility adopt the "One man, one engine" philosophy and apply the strictest of quality standards. Mercedes-AMG model range The product portfolio of Mercedes-AMG GmbH satisfies the most diverse customer requirements. A total of 17 unique, high-performance vehicle models are available, with power output ranging from 265 kW to 450 kW. Seven of these models feature the completely new AMG 6.3-litre V8-engine developing up to 386 kW: the CL 63 AMG, S 63 AMG, E 63 AMG, CLS 63 AMG and CLK 63 AMG, as well as the R 63 AMG and ML 63 AMG. The ultra-powerful AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine of the S 65 AMG and SL 65 AMG provides a driving experience in a new dimension. Racing technology for the road is the province of the CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet – with its 428 kW supercharged AMG V8-engine, this is the world’s fastest and most powerful open-top four-seater.
