Ford Motor Company has made no secret of the upcoming
North American release of the new Ford Escape. However, Mazda has been somewhat quiet about their
variant. But the silence is over and Mazda has confirmed that its new compact cross-over SUV will be
called Mazda CX-5. So the model name Tribute is to be discontinued in favour of the adoption of the
now familiar model naming formula. The CX-5 production model is derived from the
Mazda Minagi Concept
car, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year. The CX-5 will be the first production
vehicle to incorporate Mazda’s new design theme, ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ as debuted on the Mazda
Shinari concept car, as well as the full range of new technologies (which Mazda call 'Skyactive' -
excuse the spelling), including engines, transmissions, body and chassis. The CX-5 will join Mazda’s
global line-up in 2012.
The Mazda CX-5 will make its international debut at the 64th IAA (Internationale
Automobil-Ausstellung) Motor Show to be held in Frankfurt, Germany in September 2011.
