Mazda 6

9th March, 2005

Mazda Australia has for the first time sold more than 6,000 vehicles in a month. This made February 2005 the company’s best retail performance on record.

VFACTS figures show that Mazda Australia sold 6,111 vehicles in February (7.5 per cent market share), a significant jump on its previous monthly record of 5,726 retails in January 2005.

Strong sales in January and February have increased Mazda’s sales by 36.3 per cent over this time last year (11,837 retails compared with 8,686 retails in 2004) and lifted the importer’s year-to-date market share from 6.2 per cent in 2004 to 7.9 per cent.

Mazda continues to hold fourth place in the sales chart, situated behind three local manufacturers.

Sales of the Mazda 3 sedan and hatch range, which benefited from good supply, achieved 3,027 sales, an increase of 246 on the car’s previous best of 2,781 sales in January.

Mazda 6 also set a sales record, surpassing its January total of 1,324 by 52 sales.

Mazda Australia managing director, Doug Dickson, said: “Pushing past 6,000 sales last month was a significant milestone for Mazda Australia and our dealer network."

“Our decision to promote our tariff reduced pricing and good supply of our class-leading core models delivered this great result."

“Overall this year we expect to retail about 60,000 vehicles, a total that will eclipse last year’s record by almost 5,000 sales”.

In February the RX-8, which is in tight supply, sold 100, the Tribute AWD wagon 448, the Mazda 2 473 and the B Series 523.
