Maserati Reveals The New GranTurismo
21st February, 2007 | ||||
Maserati has taken the wraps of the GranTurismo, which will make its public
debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March before arriving in Australia and New
Zealand in early 2008. Styled by Pininfarina, the Maserati GranTurismo will be the Italian car
maker’s range-toping model, sitting above the existing Maserati GranSport and
Spyder sports cars and the Maserati Quattroporte sedan. The Maserati GranTurismo is a performance car, that is both a practical
every day car and one that offers a degree of performance. Maserati has designed
its new chassis to provide a level of handling and roadholding that may make it
a benchmark in its category. The Maserati GranTurismo is also built
with attention to comfort and with a choice of materials with luxury details
as well as providing room for four people. The new Maserati GranTurismo has a 4.2 litre V8 engine, delivering 303 kW,
and a weight distribution of 49% at the front and 51% at the rear. It is fitted
with an automatic gearbox and equipped with an adaptive control system which
adjusts the gear-shifting mode to the driving style and the driving conditions. Maserati’s tradition of the Gran Turismo concept dates back to 1947 when the
Trident Company unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show its first Gran Turismo, the
Maserati A6, designed by the great Pinin Farina. It was the first Maserati road
car and was produced in 58 units. The car was acclaimed by the automotive press for
its advanced technical content and for its avant-garde style solutions. The new model name – Maserati GranTurismo – is of significance. It references the
fact that once again the partnership between Maserati and Pininfarina has provided
a car that is able to generate emotions and which sets itself apart from competitors,
due to the technology with which it is built and its unique style. The new Maserati GranTurismo represents a further step towards the expansion
of the Maserati product range. |
