The Land Rover Freelander 2 has scooped the accolade of ‘Best Tow Car over £32,000’ at the UK's Caravan Club Tow Car of the Year 2008 awards ceremony, held at the Royal Automobile Club in London yesterday. Judges hailed the Freelander 2’s exceptional capability, saying: “The Freelander 2 has grown into a better looking, better-equipped 4x4 with a style that is bound to appeal to caravanners. The six-speed gearbox changes seamlessly when left to its own devices, it copes easily with hill starts and descents and on the flat you won’t find the Freelander put off its stroke by gusty crosswinds. It is a worthy winner of the top price class.” The Freelander 2, which can tow up to 2 tonnes, was put through its paces in August at the Millbrook Proving Ground. Track tests determined the car’s towing ability, dynamics when hitched, acceleration, braking and the ability to cope with hill starts, whilst a team of ‘caravanability’ judges assessed its usability, interior space and ability to go anywhere. Launched last year and new from the ground up, the Freelander 2 delivers outstanding on-road performance as well as the class-leading off-road capability of a true Land Rover. Over 11,000 units have been sold year to date – over 95 per cent of which are diesel models. “We are really delighted to win this award for Freelander 2 and for it to be recognised for its towing capacity,” says Land Rover’s UK marketing director, Andy Griffiths. “Generally, 4x4s are popular towing vehicles because of their excellent stability, improved traction and all-terrain capability. This award for Freelander 2 cements its position as the most capable 4x4 in its class.” |
