Land Rover celebrates production of 100,000th Freelander 2
1st May, 2008 | |||||||
Employees at Land Rover Halewood Plant, in Liverpool, are celebrating after producing the 100,000th Land Rover Freelander 2. The milestone vehicle has been built just 17 months after production started at Halewood. Freelander 2 was launched in late 2006, and went on sale in Australia in July last year. During 2007, the all-new model prove hugely popular across the globe, particularly in key emerging markets such as Russia, China and the Middle East. Locally, the Freelander 2 has been a great success, offering class leading off-road ability combined with luxury and refinement. The 100,000th car, a Rimini Red 2.2 litre diesel automatic, is now en route to a customer in the city of Surgut, located on Russia's Central Siberian Plateau. Roger Jory, General Manager Land Rover Australia said: "The 100,000th Freelander 2 is an important milestone for the Halewood plant. Freelander 2 helped Land Rover achieve its best ever sales year in 2007, and has won several major awards in its first twelve months in the market place. Freelander is continuing to perform well in traditional Land Rover markets such as the UK but sales in emerging areas like Russia and China are also growing rapidly, so it's entirely fitting that this car is destined for a customer in Siberia. I'd like to congratulate the Halewood workforce on this fantastic team achievement." The Land Rover Freelander 2 has been awarded a top five star rating, for occupant protection, in the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP). Previously, the Freelander 2 had been awarded five stars for adult protection, and four stars for child protection, in Euro NCAP tests. Designed and engineered by Land Rover at Gaydon, near Warwick, the Freelander 2 is built at the Halewood plant in Liverpool, where outstanding build quality has been acknowledged with a JD Power European Plant Quality Gold Award in 2005. Land Rover Freelander 2 For 2009 For the 2009 model year the Land Rover Freelander 2 will receive a range of new colours and trims designed to extend the vehicles appeal in an increasingly competitive segment. The introduction of four new paint colours, two new interior finishes and a new 'Almond' leather trim enhance the look of the MY09 Freelander 2. The side indicators receive clear lenses and the 18" HSE wheels will now become available as an option on SE models. The HSE models will also receive front interior map lights. The MY09 Freelander 2 will arrive in Australia during the third quarter 2008. Freelander 2 Recommended Retail Pricing (RRP):
