4WD of the Year Award |
21st January, 2005 Just last week in our article "What's Coming In 2005?" (which you can read from here), we said 2005 will be the year of the Discovery 3. Now we learn that Land Rover's all-new Discovery 3 SE TdV6 has scooped its first major Australian accolade with the announcement yesterday of Overlander Magazine's 4WD of the Year award. The all-new Discovery 3 won the 2004 4WD of the Year Award following a group-test win in the latest issue of Overlander magazine. Other finalists were the BMW X5 3.0d, Ford Territory TS, Land Rover Discovery 3 SE V8, Nissan Patrol ST 3.0TD and Ssangyong RX270 Sport Plus. Notable quotes from the review include "this new Land Rover should make other manufacturers think again", and "Land Rover engineers have produced a vehicle that combines first-class on-road manners with genuine off-road ability". The TdV6 finished an astonishing 12 full points ahead of BMW X5 3.0d in second place. Also commended in the awards and finishing a respectable third in the line up (only 1.5 point behind BMW) was the Land Rover Discovery SE V8. Land Rover general manager Steve Morten said, "As one of the widest read, and highly regarded publications in the Australian motor industry, it truly is praise indeed to receive this accolade from the Overlander team", he added "this is a sensational way to start the new year for Land Rover, we are thrilled and delighted to be recognised with this award". |
