Fiat Chrysler Australia Group has released the most powerful,
technologically advanced, high-performance Jeep vehicle ever – the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.
The release of the SRT8 variant of the Grand Cherokee follows the huge success experienced by the Grand Cherokee range
on the Australian market. Since launch in early 2011, sales of the vehicle have increased dramatically, and 2012 sales of
the Grand Cherokee are 217 per cent ahead of the same period last year.
Clyde Campbell, managing director of the Fiat Chrysler Australia Group, said the arrival of the performance Grand
Cherokee variant had increased interest in the American brand.
“We’ve been fielding enquiries on this vehicle since January. And it’s no wonder – this car is a stunner any way
you look at it,” Campbell said.
“The SRT8 Grand Cherokee is at the top of its game in every conceivable way – great looks, great handling,
unbelievable power and sensational pricing.”
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 features a unique combination of Jeep’s legendary off-road capability and utility, merged
with the renowned advanced performance engineering from Chrysler Group LLC’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team.
Designed and built using the proven SRT formula that raises performance to competition levels, the new 2012 Jeep Grand
Cherokee SRT8 runs from 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds, 0-160-0 km/h in the mid-16-second range, can cover the quarter mile
in the mid-13 second range and has a top speed of 257 km/h.
The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is powered by Chrysler Group’s 6.4-litre HEMI V8 with Fuel Saver Technology. The
engine delivers 344 kW at 6,250 rpm and 624 Nm at 4,100 rpm. With 90 per cent of its peak torque available between 2,800
and 6,000 rpm, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 delivers inspired standing starts and improved straight-line
performance.
The all-wheel drive 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 launches with impressive urgency. Local testing confirmed the
international acceleration time of 5.0 seconds for the 0-100 km/h sprint is easily achievable. The vehicle’s performance
compares favourably with key European luxury SUV rivals costing twice as much.
The engine’s strong and linear power delivery is complemented by the fast, smooth shifts of its five-speed automatic
transmission.
Thanks to Chrysler Group’s Multi-Displacement System, the new model also offers enhanced fuel economy by deactivating
four of the engine’s eight cylinders. Working in combination with a new active valve exhaust system, its application in
the new HEMI V8 enables four-cylinder operation to engage over a wider rev range.
In a vehicle purpose-built for performance, safety is an important and integral feature, and this is certainly the
case with the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle was a recipient of the US-market 2011 Insurance Institute for Highway
Safety’s “top Safety Pick’” due to the 45 safety and security features incorporated as standard. These include advanced
multi-stage air bags, ABS brakes with rough road detection, brake assist, brake override, traction control, enhanced
accident response system, forward collision warning, among a host of others.
The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 has significantly improved handling thanks to its new SRT-tuned, Bilstein adaptive
damping suspension (ADS) managed by Jeep’s new Selec-Track system. Jeep Selec-Track interacts with several different
systems (stability control, Bilstein adaptive damping, transmission shift strategy, transfer case torque proportioning,
electronic limited slip differential, throttle control and cylinder de-activation) to automatically tune the dynamics of
the vehicle. Jeep Selec-Track enables drivers to manually choose between five dynamic modes for specific driving
conditions, including Auto, Sport, Tow, Track and Snow.
The world-class stopping power of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 comes courtesy of new SRT high-performance Brembo
brakes, with four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS).
“It’s clear the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 has all the equipment required for a serious performance vehicle –
but the bonus is it looks the part as well,” Campbell said.

And many will agree. The functional performance exterior of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 exhibits the “planted”
look of a high-performance sporty car by being lowered 25mm and adding new, SRT-exclusive, body-colour wheel flares and
side sills.
Stunning five-spoke, 20-inch forged aluminium wheels are clad with wide and low profile P295/45ZR20 Pirelli Scorpion
Verde tyres, enhancing the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8’s aggressive stance.
A one-piece front fascia contains new LED multi-function daytime running lamps that result in an exclusive 'face' for
the new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, while a body-coloured front grille with a unique black screen background and
chrome bezel inserts add to the aggressive look.
The integrated lower front grille is painted in gloss black and a newly designed underbody belly pan features
integrated brake ducting to improve cooling and fade performance.
Completing the new front end is a newly sculpted bonnet with functional dual black heat extractors for added engine
cooling.

The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is available in four paint colours: Bright Silver clear coat; Mineral Grey metallic
clear coat; Brilliant Black pearl coat; Deep Cherry Red crystal pearl coat.
