Three All-New Jeeps Make their Australian Debut
16th February, 2007 | ||||
Jeep will give the Australian public a sneak preview of three all-new vehicles
at the Melbourne International Motor Show, 2nd-12th March, 2007, almost a month
ahead of their respective sales launches. The all-new Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited (four-door) will spearhead
the show, providing a prequel to the brand’s product offensive which
will see the range grow from four models to seven this year. The first compact SUV from the four-wheel drive brand, the Jeep
Compass, will also be revealed. But Jeep, no doubt, will not be discussing the results of a study by independent
automotive warranty specialist, Warranty Direct, who looked at more than 450,000
vehicles, from 33 manufacturers, from the UK and the USA. Jeep, has come bottom of
the class (so to speak) in arguably the world’s largest ever study into car
reliability. Almost one in every two (46 percent) of the American 4x4 giant’s models
recorded a mechanical failure during a given twelve-month period. The all-new Jeep Wrangler has been completely redesigned, returning with much
improved on-road driving manners and a new diesel powered version with both
manual and auto transmissions. Despite the changes to the new Wrangler, it retains the looks and the
off-road performance of its predecessor. “It’s exciting to be able to give the public a sneak peak of our latest
four-wheel drives ahead of their sales launch,” said Gerry Jenkins, managing
director for the Chrysler Group in Australia. “The Wrangler is not only an icon for Jeep but an incredibly capable
four-wheel drive." “Many customers and our dealers have been eagerly looking forward to its
arrival for a long time." “And now the Wrangler Unlimited expands the Jeep experience and core values
to go anywhere and do anything, now with more family, friends and more gear,
four doors and 2,324 litres of cargo space with the rear seats folded!" “But Jeep is not only launching an all-new two and four-door Unlimited
version of the iconic Wrangler in 2007, we are taking more than 65 years of
legendary 4x4 leadership to a growing area of the market with two new compact
four-wheel drives,” said Jenkins. The Compass is the first compact four-wheel drive Jeep will offer for sale,
representing a new chapter in the history of the Jeep brand. The modern looking Jeep offers a roomy interior, a choice of fuel efficient
diesel and petrol engines and an all-new 4WD system in a compact sized package. “Compass is designed to reach young active customers who may not have
previously considered the brand but value the distinctive Jeep look and see
four-wheel drive as a must-have on their daily drive,” added Jenkins. “The compact 4WD segment is expected to grow in the future and these new
vehicles mean the Jeep brand is ideally placed to meet this growing need,” he
said.
Jeep Wrangler Touted as the best Wrangler ever, the all new model
builds on the successful, original Jeep formula with an all-new frame, exterior
and interior design, engines and safety and convenience features. It delivers
more capability, refinement, interior space, comfort, open-air fun, power and
fuel efficiency. Additionally the all-new Wrangler Unlimited, featuring a one-of-a-kind,
four-door open-air design, further expands the Jeep experience to new
dimensions. With room for five adult passengers – a Wrangler first – and the
most cargo space ever offered in a Wrangler, the new addition combines
class-leading off-road capability with everyday practicality. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features a 2,947 mm wheelbase, achieved by adding 523 mm
to the standard all-new Wrangler’s 2,424 mm wheelbase. This allows for a larger
rear seat that features three seating positions, as well as more hip room,
legroom, shoulder room and cargo space. Notably, for the first time ever in a civilian model, the new Jeep Wrangler
range will offer a diesel engine, a 2.8-litre common-rail turbo diesel,
in addition to the new 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine. Wrangler Pricing All-new Jeep Wrangler: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 3.8L V6 Petrol 6-spd manual - $39,990 (RRP) All-new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 3.8L V6 Petrol 6-spd manual - $43,990

dealerships in late March 2007. Jeep Compass The Jeep Compass is ideally placed to meet growing
customer demand in Australia for compact 4WD vehicles and will be powered by
2.4-litre petrol or 2.0-litre diesel engines. The all-new 4WD system, Freedom Drive, which will also be standard on the
Patriot, the second of the compact SUV’s which will arrive for sale in Australia
in the fourth quarter, is a full-time, active four-wheel drive system that
offers the driver tangible benefits in every day driving conditions such as wet
and slippery tarmac as well as great off-road ability. Jeep brand With the arrival of the new Jeep Wrangler, Wrangler
Unlimited and Compass late March this year, the Jeep range will grow to six
models joining the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and the seven-seat Commander. A
seventh model, the Jeep Patriot, will be added later in the year. |
