A NEW JAGUAR XJ6 |
29th February, 2004 Grace, Pace and Space – Jaguar's new XJ6Jaguar will add the 3.0 litre V6 model, the XJ6, to its impressive range of XJs in Australia delivering a new standard of luxury and performance under $150,000.The weight of the new XJ has made it possible to bring back the famous XJ6 badge. It was an XJ6 that started the XJ story in September 1968, when the first generation of the car was revealed at the British Motor Show. Jaguar Australia General Manager David Blackhall unveiled the new XJ6 at the Melbourne Motor Show welcoming the inclusion of the XJ6 to the Jaguar range in Australia. "The XJ6 allows us to offer discerning customers in the luxury market a vehicle that doesn't compromise on space, refinement or the luxury touches that are expected in this segment," Mr Blackhall said. "The surprising feature is that this impressive package is available for $149,900. While the XJ6 competes directly against BMW's 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class in features and size the price is more comparable to their mid-luxury offerings of 5 Series and E Class." The all-aluminium XJ pioneers a new lightweight vehicle architecture that is centred on a conventional monocoque body structure. The benefits of a lightweight vehicle include not compromising on performance with the addition of the 3.0 litre V6 model. The new XJ's AJ-V6 achieves class-leading output for this size of normally aspirated engine, developing 179kW DIN with a peak torque of 300N DIN at 4100 rpm. The light weight of the new XJ ensures that performance of the XJ6 is comparable with the previous 3.2 litre XJ8. Major contributors to the wide spread of torque are the variable-geometry induction system and the continuously Variable Cam Phasing (VCP) system, which adjusts the timing of the intake valve opening and closing, depending on engine speed, load and oil temperature. This allows engine performance to be optimised for excellent mid-range torque, improved full-load performance, reduced emissions and improved fuel economy. The 60 degree AJ-V6 engine has a lightweight but exceptionally stiff structure – which makes a major contribution to the engine's overall refinement – and a forged steel crankshaft with four main bearings and direct-acting mechanical bucket tappets. Other key features include two overhead chain-driven cast iron camshafts per bank with four valves per cylinder, a four-mode tuned intake manifold and a state-of-the-art, 32-bit Denso electronic engine management system. Jaguar's quintessential refinement is ensured in the XJ6 with the inclusion of air suspension. The system is self-leveling and automatically lowers the car's ride height for improved high-speed stability. This sense of luxury continues with the warm, inviting 'classic' Jaguar interior, where craftsmanship is the highest priority. Comprehensively equipped with contemporary luxury car technology but restrained and conservative in style, the XJ6 is distinguished by classic Jaguar design cues and hallmark attention to detail. The Jaguar XJ's relevant technologies are centred on easing driver ergonomics, enhancing passenger comfort and expanding entertainment possibilities. Specification levels for the range in Australia set a high standard with features like satellite navigation, television, premium sound, front-fitted phone and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) all standard. The new Jaguar XJ's luxurious interior has new levels of spaciousness, craftsmanship, ergonomic flexibility and seat comfort, complemented by entertainment, climate control and communications systems that reflect the needs of today's luxury car customers. And yet alongside these practical considerations, the new XJ remains warm and inviting inside – a classic Jaguar interior. Despite the generous amount of space in the cabin, the driver and passengers still feel cosseted, the ambience set off by real wood veneers and hand-stitched leather. With significantly more headroom, legroom, shoulder room and rear-seat knee room, the new XJ interior provides a comfortable and relaxing environment for five adults. The XJ6 goes on sale in Australia in April and will be priced at $149,900. NEW XJ6 SPECIFICATIONS
