Jaguars of the Future on Display at Sydney Motor Show |
Jaguar R-D6 concept car |
28th September, 2004 The Jaguar stand at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney will host an impressive range of Jaguars of the future – led by the outstanding concept car the Jaguar R-D6. The R-D6 is an impression of Jaguars of the future – a balance of the emotional and the rational. Its pure sensuous and sporting design is a vision of the future of premium motoring: beautiful, fast, agile, efficient and fun. Jaguar observers will see classic Jaguar design cues – such as the grille, but they are not there to commemorate Jaguar's past, but because they are right for a thoroughly modern Jaguar. R-D6 also takes advantage of Jaguar's lightweight structure strategy, as pioneered in the new XJ saloon. Using aluminium and composite materials for the chassis and body. R-D6 weighs just 1500kg. This allows it to capitalize on the power – and, more importantly, the torque – delivered by its V6 engine. And it's the engine that will surprise many people – although, when you think about it, a high-performance 2.7 litre diesel engine makes perfect sense. Confirming Jaguar as a potent new force in the world of large capacity diesels, the bi-turbo V6 is a tuned version of the engine that appears in another of the Jaguar stars of the motor show – the S-TYPE Diesel. Jaguar Australia is hoping to make diesel power an alternative choice to the existing petrol engine options for Jaguar customers sometime in 2005. Jaguar will display the S-TYPE Diesel at the Sydney motor show on the new S-TYPE with its striking styling changes including a new rear-end design and a new aluminium bonnet, dynamic improvements, enhanced interior features and a wider choice of equipment, are among the highlights of the new S-TYPE. But it's the diesel engine that makes for impressive reading. The four-cam, 24-valve, twin-turbo V6 features the second generation common-rail direct injection and super-fast piezo-electric injector operation. Maximum power from the 2.7 litre engine is 153kW. Torque peaks at a heady 435Nm, which is actually higher than that of the S-TYPE's naturally aspirated 4.2 litre V8 petrol engine, yet the Diesel has 47 per cent better fuel consumption. Another of the cars of the future on display in Sydney is the X-TYPE Estate, which Jaguar hope to introduce to the Australian market in mid-2005. The X-TYPE Estate is a striking addition to the Jaguar range and has been designed to meet the needs of a new generation of Jaguar buyers, and has already proved to be a successful seller in the European market. The Estate combines style and dynamic qualities to produce a car that offers an unrivalled combination of luxury, refinement and versatility. Based on the X-TYPE sedan, but with unique new body styling and structure from the B-pillars back – including rear doors and roof it can be configured to provide seating for one, two or three passengers, depending on how much luggage space is required. The 2005 XK also takes a leading role in this year's display. The XK has consistently set the benchmark when it comes to blending luxury, performance and grand touring ability. The XK's iconic looks have been given a more contemporary feel with the addition of a revised nose and rear section, complemented by new side sills, wheels and trim. The SKR also gets a new mesh grille, supplemented by a lower 'mouth profile' in the front bumper. The final product looking to the future is the X-TYPE sports collection that will also be on display in Sydney. The addition of a sports pack gives the X-TYPE a sporty differentiation targeted at the younger buyer. The enhancements give the S-TYPE a more athletic, sportier appearance with a new front lower spoiler, black mesh grille and lower 'infill' grille. In keeping with the new front-end section, the design team has also lowered the side sills and added a new, lower rear valance to ensure the more squat, purposeful stance is noticeable from all angles. The Jaguar stand is in Hall 5 of the Australian International Motor Show at the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre in Sydney from 7th-17th October. |
