JAC vans, the Refine and Sunray, are coming to Australia. A release is expected in the first quarter next year.

Although Chinese automotive products have a well deserved reputation for poor safety standards and low resale value, vehicle importer WMC has been keen to expand their commercial vehicle range into additional vehicle categories. Currently, the Sydney-based importer is bringing-in Higer buses and Jac trucks from China. The company had previously flagged they were behind a move to import Foton utes. However, this plan failed to materialise because Foton would have been priced far too high for a Chinese vehicle given that the reputation of Chinese vehicle manufacturers is so poorly regarded by so many.

The JAC Refine van has a two-litre twin overhead cam, electronically fuel injected, turbo-charged petrol engine, matched to JAC's own six-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission and a diesel engine are under development for the Refine.

The turbo petrol engine delivers maximum power of 120 kW at 4,000 rpm and torque of 235 Nm between 3,500-4,500 rpm giving it a maximum speed of 165 km/h.

Refine will be available as either a cargo van with cubic capacity of up to nine cubic metres or as an 11 seat mini-bus.

The Sunray uses JAC's own four cylinder common rail direct injection 2.7-litre inter-cooled and turbo-charged diesel engine which delivers 88 kW of power at 3,600 rpm and 280 Nm of torque at 2,200 rpm. This is coupled to JAC's own LCST 28 five-speed transmission. An automatic version will be available also.

Sunray will also be offered with an optional Cummins ISF 2.8litre delivering power of 110 kW at 3,200 rpm with maximum torque of 360 Nm at 1,800 rpm.

With a wheelbase of 3,570 mm, the Sunray has a cargo capcity of 14 cubic metres and an agile 14 metre turning circle.

A mini-bus with seating for up to 15 people, in two trim levels, will also be available in the JAC Sunray line-up.

Stability control is not likely to be fitted to JAC vehicles.
