- Infiniti G37 Coupe and Convertible now on sale in Australia
Performance luxury car brand Infiniti has released two exciting G37 models in Australia, the exhilarating G37 Coupe
and G37 Convertible.
For Australia, the Infiniti G range is represented by these two exciting models, both powered by a 3.7-litre petrol V6
equipped with VVEL (for Variable Valve Event and Lift) rated at 235 kW and with a peak torque of 360 Nm. The VVEL system
combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side,
enhancing not only performance and response but also emissions and fuel efficiency.
The engine is backed by a seven-speed automatic transmission and features a performance-oriented Drive Sport (DS) Mode
and Downshift Rev Matching.
Both the G37 Coupe and Convertible are underpinned by Infiniti’s advanced FM (Front Mid-Ship) platform. The G37 Coupe
is available with an optional 4-Wheel Active Steer system (4WAS), which helps optimise vehicle handling by adjusting both
the front steering gear ratios and the rear suspension geometry according to steering input and vehicle speed, resulting
in agile handling.
The G37’s impressive performance is clothed in a stylish look, while inside the two models blend unique materials and
finishes with traditional Japanese design cues.
Open-top Driving Enjoyment
The Infiniti G37 Convertible has been designed around the central idea that a luxury performance convertible should
look equally inviting with its top up or down – and be equally enjoyable to drive whether the roof is up or down. The G37
Convertible combines grace and performance with signature Infiniti attention to detail.
Based on its sibling, the Infiniti G Coupe, the G Convertible offers a model-exclusive design from the A-pillars back,
including a unique body structure and a wider rear track. Its athletic, well-proportioned coupe-like styling, flowing
front mudguards, wave-like bonnet, and signature Infiniti double-arch grille offer an uncommon presence that is only
enhanced when the exclusive three-piece power hardtop retracts, with one-button operation, securely into the boot.
The inviting, convertible-focused interior includes leather-appointed seating and a 13-speaker Bose® Open Air Sound
System that dynamically changes equalisation based on outside noise, vehicle speed, and roof position, and an adaptive
climate control system that adjusts fan speed in accordance to roof position and vehicle speed.
The G Convertible wears a G Coupe-like silhouette with the top up through use of a special three-piece “clamshell”
retractable hardtop, which allows for both a stylish shorter rear overhang and a low boot lid. Compared to G Coupe, the G
Convertible uses unique body panels from the A-pillar back, a 30mm wider overall width, wider rear track and modified
rear suspension. Along with its stunning proportions, the G Convertible offers signature Infiniti styling cues. The
automatic roof opening/closing sequence takes 25 seconds from start to finish. The open/close switch is located on the
centre console, just behind the transmission shifter lever.
Exhilarating Performance - Advanced Engine Design
At the core of the Infiniti G37 Coupe and Convertible is good performance from an advanced 3.7-litre V6 engine with
VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) which is rated at 235 kW of power and 360 Nm of torque.
The engine’s VVEL system combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable
valve lift on the intake side to help improve performance and response. The VVEL intake camshafts, featuring continuously
variable lift control teamed with the Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), allow for a 7,500 rpm
red line.
The Infiniti G37 Coupe delivers a fuel consumption rate of 10.5-litres per 100 km and has a CO2 output of 246 g/km
(combined cycle, according to ADR 81/02). The G37 Convertible’s fuel consumption rate is 11.4-litres per 100 km with a
CO2 output of 264 g/km (combined cycle, according to ADR 81/02).
The engine boasts the following features: ladder frame construction for greater rigidity; large crank journal and pin
diameters; asymmetric piston skirts; twin knock sensors; an electronically controlled “drive-by-wire” throttle system;
lightweight pistons; Iridium spark plugs and a symmetric twin air intake system. The specially tuned dual exhaust system
features equal length exhaust manifolds and low muffler exhaust backpressure to help improve engine breathing. Both
intake and exhaust enhance driving pleasure with their authentic performance notes.
The engine fitted to the G37 Coupe and Convertible is backed by an electronically controlled seven-speed automatic
transmission with manual mode, downshift rev matching, Drive Sport (DS) mode and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) that allows
for quicker shifts in sporty driving situations and available genuine magnesium paddle shifters.
The Infiniti G37 Coupe in S Premium specification comes equipped with a Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD).
Acceleration in the Infiniti G37 Coupe is quite good, with a 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds (G37 Convertible 6.4
seconds).
Performance Platform and Suspension
Developed at test circuits throughout Europe – including Germany’s famed Nürburgring – the G37 Coupe and Convertible
were conceived as performance thoroughbreds. Handling and ride performance are underpinned by the G37’s FM (Front
Mid-ship) platform.
The G37 Coupe’s four-wheel independent suspension design features lightweight aluminium components and large front
and rear stabiliser bars, increased spring rates and optimised suspension damping. The front suspension is a
double-wishbone design, with a single pivot lower wishbone and a long upper link.
The multi-link rear suspension separates the shock absorbers and springs, locating the shock absorber in line with the
wheel centre. These designs help minimise alignment changes and reduce suspension friction for nimble handling and smooth
riding characteristics.
Responsive steering is provided by a vehicle-speed-sensing design, which provides optimum steering effort at both high
and low vehicle speeds. Standard on all G37 Coupes and Convertibles is Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), which assists in
enhancing vehicle stability under a variety of driving conditions.
Also available on the G37 Coupe fitted with the S Premium package is Infiniti’s exclusive 4-Wheel Active Steer system
(4WAS). It uses a unique chassis configuration that features automatically variable front steering ratios and rear
suspension geometry that adjusts to steering input and vehicle speed via motor-driven controls.

The system’s electronic control unit calculates the desired vehicle dynamics from a series of sensors, including
vehicle speed and steering angle, and separately directs both the front and rear actuators to change steering gear ratios
and rear geometry by moving both the front steering gear and rear suspension lower links – thus providing sports car-like
agility and secure stability.
Braking performance is provided by standard four-wheel vented discs with four-channel, four-sensor Anti-lock Braking
System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). S Premium grades of the G37 Coupe and
Convertible are fitted with aluminium four-piston (front) and two-piston callipers (rear) embossed with Infiniti
lettering and large ventilated rotors – 355 mm front and 350 mm at the rear.
Aluminium-alloy wheels in both 18- and 19-inch diameters are available. Standard 10-spoke 18x8.0-inch titanium-finish
aluminium alloy wheels are fitted to the G37 Coupe in standard specification. S Premium-equipped G37 Coupes and the G37
Convertible are fitted with stunning 5-triple-spoke 19x8.5-inch front wheels (with 225/45 R19 tyres) and 19x9.0-inch rear
wheels (with 245/40 R19 tyres).
Styling
The G37 Coupe and Convertible’s advanced performance systems are wrapped in a dynamic 'skin', giving the vehicle a
kinetic feeling with emotional surface expression, sweeping character lines and tight panel gap lines. Exterior
highlights include flowing front mudguard curves, a wave-style bonnet, expressive front fascia with Infiniti’s signature
double-arch grille and L-shaped High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Bi-xenon headlights with integrated fog lamps. The
aluminium bonnet is secured by dual latches located at the two front corners to ensure an excellent fit.
The strong side character line and side sills integrate with the large wheel wells and performance-oriented wheel and
tyre packages to transmit an added sense of power.
The rear of the G37 Coupe and Convertible features broad rear mudguards that flow into the large LED taillights – an
Infiniti trademark; refined rear bumper; integrated RearView Monitor camera; rear under-body air diffusers and large dual
exhaust outlets with chrome finishers.
Infiniti’s advanced Scratch Shield self-healing clearcoat paint is standard on all Infiniti models, including the G37
Coupe and Convertible.
Sophisticated, Luxurious Interior
The interior design of the G37 Coupe and Convertible features sophisticated craftsmanship, with a cockpit-oriented
front occupant area, Infiniti signature “double wave” instrument panel design featuring an analogue clock and dramatic,
full-length centre console with a leather and aluminium-clad shifter.
The instrument panel features Infiniti electroluminescent instrumentation with white and violet illumination and
integrated multi-function information drive computer (average fuel consumption; real-time fuel economy; average speed;
elapsed time; running distance; distance to empty; outside air temperature; warning displays; odometer and automatic
transmission shift indicator) display. The double hand-stitched leather-covered steering wheel is designed for maximum
comfort and usability, with standard wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls. Genuine magnesium paddle shifters are
fitted for hand-control of the standard-fitment seven-speed automatic transmission.
The multi-adjustable front seats are appointed with Infiniti’s exclusive premium leather and feature 2-way adjustable
head restraints and a unique rear-seat access system, whereby the front seats will move forward automatically at the
touch of a button to allow passengers into the rear seats.
Technological and convenience features abound in both the G37 Coupe and Convertible, including standard Infiniti
Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, Remote Keyless Entry system, Bi-Xenon headlights with Active Front-lighting
System (AFS) and auto-levelling, 30GB HDD Navigation System, 7-inch high-resolution colour touch screen display and
11-speaker Studio on Wheels Bose® sound system with 10GB Music Box.
The G37 Convertible comes fitted with a 13-speaker Infiniti Bose® Open Air Sound system with AudioPilot® 2.0
technology that automatically optimises EQ settings for open/closed roof positions. The system’s special Bose® Front
seat Personal Speakers, mounted in the front seat head restraints, enable superior front audio quality regardless of the
roof’s position.
Both the G37 Coupe and Convertible are fitted with Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System and audio streaming with
iPod®/USB connection.
Other standard features include a glass sunroof with sliding shade (G37 Coupe only); 10-way power driver’s seat with
lumbar support; automatic dual-zone climate control and heating for the front seats.
Safety Performance and Technology
Standard fitment to all G37 Coupe and Convertibles is an Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), which automatically
controls the headlight lighting pattern according to steering angle and vehicle speed to help provide better visibility
at night.
Driver and front passenger SRS airbags come standard, along with roof-mounted (G37 Coupe only) curtain side impact
supplemental air bags for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection. Front seat-mounted side impact
supplemental air bags are also fitted. For the G37 Convertible, door-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags and
dual pop-up roll bars are fitted.
Also standard are three-point ALR/ELR seat belts (driver’s side ELR only) and front seat belts with pre-tensioners and
load limiters and adjustable upper anchors; driver and front-passenger knee bolsters; front seat Active Head Restraints
and ISOFIX and LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) Systems.
The G37 Coupe and Convertible feature front and rear crushable zones to help disperse crash energy around the
passenger compartment. For occupant safety, the engine is designed to move under the occupant compartment in a high-speed
frontal collision, while a breakaway construction of the propeller shaft (connected with the engine-drop function) and
the double-wall construction of the bulkhead helps to minimise cabin deformation, especially in the lower leg area. In
addition, the brake pedal is designed to collapse to help reduce lower leg injuries in a severe crash.
