Provided as part of a no-cost community service initiative, Victoria Police identified the Hummer as ideal for policing duties throughout Victoria due to their bold exterior look and functional capability.

“Victoria Police is pleased to be working in partnership with Hummer in our efforts to reduce alcohol-related crime on our streets,” Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon said.

“The Hummers act as a strong deterrent and due to their distinctive appearance and road presence create maximum impact on the streets.”

The five Hummers will be used as part of an overall public order strategy and will be used in the Melbourne CBD and right across Victoria.

“The H3’s combination of unparalleled capabilities, dramatic design and mid-size truck economies make it an ideal vehicle to support the Victorian Police,” said Parveen Batish, Director of GM Premium Brands.

“Hummer has a long history of supporting community service initiatives globally and we are proud to continue with those activities right here in Victoria.”

Hummer community service initiatives in the United States include emergency response vehicles for the Red Cross and recreation projects in the Sierra National Forest, California.

Hummer’s relationship with the Red Cross began in 2004 with a commitment to provide 72 vehicles to the Red Cross that includes a combination of Hummer disaster response vehicles, as well as $100,000 each year from the GM Foundation.

Today there are 31 Hummer models in service with the Red Cross. These vehicles have been used in response to countless disasters, including areas hit by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; flooding in Orange County, New York; and wildfires in California. The vehicles also support each chapter’s daily emergency response efforts and are used in local programmes and services.

Hummer has also partnered with the non-profit group Tread Lightly! and the U.S. Forest Service in a programme called Hummer’s Recreation Rescue in an effort to provide project grants to regeneration activities around the country to ensure land remains accessible for responsible folks while protecting the integrity of the forest.

Hummer’s Recreation Rescue is a programme promoting volunteerism and conservation for off-road regeneration sites across the United States.
