29th March, 2009
- Hummer H2 leads the way with E85 FlexPower capability
- New V8 power and new H3T body style expands Hummer H3 line-up
The iconic Hummer range of vehicles looks forward to an exciting 2009 in Europe, with new models and
powertrains which expand Hummer's appeal to a wider group of customers. What has not changed, however, is
the unique style that sets every Hummer apart on the highway, and the legendary capabilities that make it
unique off-road as well.
One new initiative, led by the Hummer H2 SUV and H2 SUT, is the standard FlexPower capability that will
allow these models to run on E85 ethanol, petrol, or any combination of the two fuels. E85, which consists
of 85 per cent ethanol mixed with petrol, is a cleaner-burning, higher-octane fuel that can help offset
rising demand for oil.
Hummer H2
The H2 SUV and H2 SUT models are now powered by a 6.2 litre all-aluminium V8 engine, rated at 293 kW
and 574 Nm of torque, matched with a six speed automatic transmission.
A new, six speed Hydra-Matic 6L80 electronically-controlled automatic transmission complements the 6.2
litre engine and helps deliver an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy. The 6L80 transmission
has a "tap up/tap down" option that allows the driver to manually select upshifts and downshifts with a
button on the column shifter.
The H2’s legendary off-road performance remains unchanged. The Hummer H2 has short overhangs for radical
approach and departure angles, along with exceptional ground clearance for minimal impact on trails. A
heavy-duty, independent front suspension and a five-link rear suspension provide superior handling,
load-carrying, and towing abilities. These elements help the H2 deliver on Hummer's mantra of capability,
including powering through streams 610 mm deep, climbing 407 mm steps and rocks, and plowing through deep
sand or snow.
Hummer H3
The H3 packs authentic Hummer style and capability into dimensions appropriate for European driving
conditions, allowing H3 to navigate city traffic, yet still deliver Hummer’s trademark off-road performance
when required.
European models for 2009 now offer a new powertrain. Unchanged is the GM Vortec 3.7 litre, in-line five
cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts and variable valve timing, offering 180 kW at 5,600 rpm and
328 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm.

The new, powerful and efficient 5.3 litre V8 engine is based on GM’s legendary ‘small-block’ engine
'family'. It is rated at 224 kW and 432 Nm of torque. The 5.3 litre V8 accelerates the H3 from 0-100 km/h
in 8.2 seconds. The maximum permissible trailer weight is increased to 2.268 kilogrammes.
The new Hummer H3T
The 2009 Hummer H3T is bringing unmistakable style and unmatched capability to the light truck market.
Based on the architecture of the popular Hummer H3, it features a five-passenger crew cab and a separate
1.5 metre-long load bed, dimensions suitable for small load carrying or for lifestyle use. A broad range
of factory accessories will be available for the H3T at European Hummer dealerships.
The H3T embodies the classic Hummer design elements – wide stance, low roofline, and wheels at the
corners – but is smaller than a full-size American utility truck, at 1,904 mm wide and 5,404 mm long.
H3T maintains its signature Hummer off-road capability. It is the only light duty truck to come with
full-time four-wheel drive, 32-inch tyres and functional skid plates as standard equipment. It also is the
only utility truck to offer front and rear locking differentials, for ultimate off-road performance.
