Honda Jazz crash test

Jazz Safety "Top of the Class"

Honda’s Jazz has achieved the first 3 star pedestrian safety rating for the supermini class of Phase 14 of the Euro NCAP crash test results published on 24th June. This milestone represents a first for any manufacturer to win 3 stars in the fiercely competitive supermini segment under the newer and much tougher testing protocol introduced by NCAP.

Achieving top marks in pedestrian safety puts Jazz alongside Honda’s Stream, Accord, CR-V and the Civic – which was the pioneer in this field and the first ever vehicle to achieve 3 stars.

In addition, the Jazz has the best overall performance for combined safety in the class, with 4 star occupant protection, 3 star pedestrian protection and a 3 star child seat rating. In common with all new Honda models, ISOFIX child seat anchors are provided, the Jazz installation additionally benefiting from top tether mounts for additional stability.

The results confirm Honda’s commitment to safety, and demonstrate that supermini owners do not have to compromise safety in their choice of vehicle type.

Claes Tingvall, Euro NCAP Chairman, commented: “… whilst Honda continues to lead in the development of pedestrian friendly car fronts, I am disappointed to see that other manufacturers lag so far behind. Manufacturers have risen to the challenge for occupant and child protection; it is now time for them to redouble their efforts and move forward in this safety area.“

The Euro NCAP testing protocols are unique in that they include tests for front, side impact and pole impact and also give information on pedestrian safety. The front impact test is conducted at 64km/h (40mph) into an offset deformable barrier, the side impact test 50km/h (30mph), the pole test at 29km/h (18mph) and the pedestrian tests at 40km/h (25mph).

Honda’s Jazz is one of Australia’s safest light cars offering a host of safety features, including:

  • G-CON safety technology
  • Driver and passenger front airbags
  • Front seatbelt pretensioners
  • ABS brakes
  • Crumple zones, and,
  • Interior head protection structures.

The Jazz sells from $15,990.
