After recording its third year of record sales and
growth of 28% in 2005, Honda has started 2006 in scorching fashion, recording
its highest ever monthly sales of 4,751 units according to VFACTS figures
released last Friday.
Honda’s previous best month of 4,746 units was in June 2005.
The star performers for Honda were the Accord twins with the Accord finishing
third in the Large car segment (under $80,000) behind Holden and Ford and
outselling Toyota’s Camry V6 and Avalon, Mitsubishi 380 and Nissan Maxima.
The Accord Euro finished second in the under $55,000 medium segment with 1,407
sales just behind the Toyota Camry (1,496) and well ahead of the Mazda 6 (1,142),
Subaru Liberty (560) and Hyundai Sonata (204).
An exceptional result was also recorded by the CR-V (1,501),
with strong sales also delivered by Jazz (509) and Odyssey (337), which easily
won the people mover segment.
This excellent result makes Honda the fifth biggest seller for the month with
a market share of 6.8% and a passenger car share of 7.3% up from 6.5% same time
last year.
Honda Senior Director Lindsay Smalley was thrilled with the result, “After
three record years this is the perfect start to the new year as we strive
towards 50,000 units this year. And there’s no doubt the addition of the all-new
Civic to our range in February, will help us achieve another great year.”
