Honda has been named twice in the annual 'Australia’s
Best Cars' awards, with the Honda Accord Euro winning the Best Mid-Size car
over $28,000 segment and the Honda Odyssey Luxury taking the Best People
Mover for the second consecutive year.
The Odyssey saw off stiff competition from newer and more expensive rivals to
retain the people mover crown.
Australia’s Best Cars Chief Judge Ernest Litera said the Odyssey is a
terrific transporter.
“For the second year in a row the Odyssey’s car like qualities put it out of
reach of its rivals,” he said. “Its handling, braking and noise suppression are
top-shelf.”
“The Odyssey extracts enough performance from its 2.4-litre i-VTEC engine to
carry seven passengers and has a smooth, sequential shift automatic
transmission.”
“Its price also means it is well within reach of family finances.”
First-time winner Accord Euro beat a host of European-built rivals to take
the trophy.
'Australia’s Best Cars' Chief Judge Ernest Litera said Accord Euro buyers would
relish a competent and comfortable ride, the punchy and polished match between
engine and automatic transmission and a communicative front-wheel-drive handling
package.
“The Euro’s silky Honda drivetrain is the peak of smoothness and quietness,”
he said. “It has powerful brakes and a supremely silent cabin.”
“The Euro scores top marks for seat comfort, build quality and thoughtful
ergonomics, plus high scores for space and safety.”
Honda Australia Director Lindsay Smalley said Honda was pleased with the
recognition from the 'Australia’s Best Cars' awards.
“Australia’s Best Cars focuses on what consumers expect from a motor vehicle
and for Honda to win two awards is an unbiased, independent endorsement of the
quality in our product lineup,” he said.
“At a recommended retail price of $45,290, the Honda Odyssey Luxury has the
performance, style, comfort and quality that make it much more than just a
people mover. In fact, it’s the people mover you want to own, not have to own.”
The Odyssey is available in two variants – Odyssey, which is $38,790, and
Odyssey Luxury, which retails for $45,290.
“And the Euro is just an outstanding blend of on-road performance, quality,
safety, style and comfort.”
Accord Euro pricing begins at $33,500 (six-speed manual transmission) and
extends to $42,500 for the Euro luxury (five-speed automatic).
'Australia’s Best Cars' is one of the nation’s many motoring awards
and is run by RACV, NRMA, RACQ, RACT, RAASA, RACWA and AANT. It is an
independent and objective award using an evaluation system incorporating a
detailed survey of what car buyers expect from not just a car, but from a car
award as well.
