11th November, 2004 Honda gains two awards at Australia’s Best Cars Awards – Odyssey has been judged Australia’s Best People Mover and the Accord V6 Best Luxury Car Under $57,000 for the second year running. Launched to widespread acclaim in June this year, the new Odyssey clinched the Best People Mover award thanks to its fresh take on mobilising up to seven passengers. Australia’s Best Cars Chief Judge Ernest Litera said stand-out styling, build quality, extensive standard equipment and on-road performance made Odyssey a clear choice for the judges. “Honda’s ride, handling, braking, smoothness and quietness engineers should take a bow,” he said. For the second consecutive year, Australia’s Best Cars judges named the Accord V6 the No.1 luxury car buy in its category based on price, value for money, running costs, safety and environmental impact – despite two new category contenders. Mr Litera said the Honda Accord V6 retains the Best Luxury Car Under $57,000 title because it has everything expected from a luxury car at a value-for-money price. “Accord is a surprising package. It offers comfort, practicality and performance for much less than most of its competitors, making it amongst the best value-for-money offerings across the entire market,” he said. Honda Australia Director Lindsay Smalley is pleased with the motoring associations’ recognition. “This award highlights what Honda does best – produce high quality, value for money cars,” he said. “The Odyssey is satisfying buyers looking for a people mover that’s functional, well-priced and enjoyable to drive, while the 177kW, 3.0-litre Accord V6 is unmatched for driving refinement. Both cars are comprehensively equipped with dual-stage front i-SRS airbags, ABS and a host of luxury features including 6-stack CD player, cruise control and power windows and mirrors,” he said. Mr Smalley also announced Honda will offer three years/100,000km of free servicing for all Accord VTi, V6 and V6 Luxury models sold until December 31 to celebrate the Accord’s award-winning performance. “This special offer adds around $1,500 of extra value to an already strong package,” he said. The Odyssey is available in two variants – Odyssey, which is $38,790, and Odyssey Luxury, which retails for $45,290. Accord pricing begins at $34,250 for the 2.4-litre 4-cylinder, while the Accord V6 is $39,990 and the Accord V6 Luxury $46,240. Australia’s Best Cars is one of the nation’s most prestigious motoring awards and is run by RACV, NRMA, RACQ, RACT, RAASA, RACWA and AANT. It is an independent and objective award using an evaluation system incorporating a detailed survey of what car buyers expect from not just a car, but from a car award as well. |
