3rd February, 2005 Holden's ultimate crossover, the Crewman four-door ute, is now available in a V6 all-wheel-drive version - the Crewman Cross 6. Crewman Cross 6 rounds out Holden's standout four-door ute range including the V8-powered AWD Crewman Cross 8 and rear-wheel-drive models Crewman, Crewman S and SS. Holden Chairman and Managing Director Denny Mooney said Crewman Cross 6 would allow buyers to discover the benefits of a four-door 'stretch' ute with V6 power and all-road capability. "Crewman Cross 6 offers a V6-powered vehicle which mixes recreational use with workday practicality - and you can take it off road when you need to," Mr Mooney said. Crewman Cross 6 is equipped with Holden's new generation 3.6 litre Alloytec engine teamed with four-speed automatic transmission. The Alloytec V6 produces load-pulling peak torque of 320Nm at 3600rpm and generates peak power of 175kW at 6000rpm. Crewman Cross 6 also features Cross Trac - Holden's traction-control-based, full-time all wheel drive system. In VZ form, the 5.7 litre Gen III Crewman Cross 8 gets a 235kW (was 225kW) power output, electronic throttle control, upgraded four speed auto transmission and an improved braking system with new brake booster and master cylinder. Crewman has been a driver in Holden claiming market leadership in the hotly contested light truck market. Flexibility, Style, Features The big VZ Crewman's road presence is accentuated in AWD form by a high ground clearance, flared wheel arches and a wider stance. Crewman Cross 6 is identified by a front facia with sedan-style integrated lower air intake, prominent black undertray mouldings, facia cut-outs and 17-inch alloy wheels. Crewman Cross 6 equipment includes power windows, cruise control, driver and passenger airbags, leather-wrap steering wheel with remote audio controls, CD player, 'Sonic' sports fabric trim, brake assist and latest generation Bosch 8 ABS system. Crewman Cross 8 design cues include anodised aluminium protector plate and rocker panel inserts, jewelled projector headlamps with black bezel surrounds, twin bar parking lamps, fog lamps, hexagonal sports mesh inserts and 17-inch, five-spoke machine-faced alloy wheels with graphite inserts. Crewman Cross 8 is now equipped with electronic climate control, dual high-mounted cup holders and auxiliary sports gauges, in addition to side impact airbags and SS-style features such as a sports profile leather wrap steering wheel and drilled alloy pedals. Colour selection is *Impulse - chromatic brilliant blue; *Odyssey - dark mercury silver; Heron White; Phantom Black and Redhot. * denotes new to AWD Crewman Crewman's rear tray accommodates work gear and recreational items such as mountain bikes and motorcycles. A 'delete tub' option allows for a wide range of custom-built alternatives to suit special-use requirements. With rear seats folded, Crewman has a large amount of secure cabin space. The entire floor area is accessible via rear doors and two storage boxes are housed in the rear seat bases. Strength and Durability Minimum ground clearance at Kerb Load is 226 mm and V6 towing capacity is 2100kg with accessory kit. Its light commercial strengths include a torque arm system linking the chassis to the cabin, variable four-leaf spring rear suspension, high load rated wheels and tyres, heavy duty brake and cooling systems. Chassis, underbody and key components engineered for all-road applications include front and rear 'bash plate' undertrays, heavy duty engine cradle, front strut bracing and reinforced front and rear suspension. The modified transmission is mounted on a two-piece system that doubles as an extra body brace and acts to improve safety performance in side impact crashes. Front strut bracing gives extra rigidity across the chassis and the exhaust system is packaged higher for rough track applications. An engine and underbody transmission protection plate is optional. Cross Trac The rear wheel drive-biased torque split is 38 per cent front and 62 per cent rear for maximum flexibility and stability. Cross Trac software is calibrated to cope with the sand, gravel and loose dirt surfaces that make up 65 per cent of Australian roads. Thousands of variables determine the amount of torque split required for maximum traction. Holden By Design On Sale: |
