7th April, 2006 South Australians get their chance to see first hand the wild-style hot rod that reinvents the classic FJ Holden, EFIJY, at this weekend's Adelaide Motor Show. A stunning blend of the past and future, EFIJY has drawn crowds of car lovers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and is sure to do the same this weekend at the Royal Adelaide Showgrounds, Wayville. Holden's line-up of current and future models on display at the show has something for almost every driver, including a range of new 6.0-litre V8-powered cars, the S3X concept SUV with hybrid technology, the new Astra Turbo Diesel, and Australia's biggest range of small cars, which now includes a Barina Sedan. |

EFIJY One of the nation's favourite classic Holdens, the FJ, has been reinvented into a 21st century hot rod concept car. The brainchild of GM Holden designer Richard Ferlazzo, EFIJY has received more global accolades since its launch than any other concept in Holden's proud showcar history. Painted in striking Soprano purple and featuring a 480kW supercharged 6.0-litre engine, EFIJY stole the limelight at last year's Australian International Motor Show in Sydney and is sure to be the centre of every car fan's attention this year in Adelaide. |
S3X This SUV concept is a glimpse into the near future, closely resembling Holden's new SUV for Australia called Captiva. The S3X features environmentally friendly hybrid technology, showing the public what is possible with General Motors' potential future propulsion systems. The car has a strong Australian influence, with two former Holden designers, Michael Simcoe and Max Wolff, part of the design team. The global debut of the production vehicle Captiva will be later in 2006. Astra Turbo Diesel Holden's second-biggest-selling car-line behind Commodore, Astra, will offer turbo diesel engines to Australian buyers for the first time ever around mid-year. Holden's Astra Turbo Diesel five-door hatch will deliver outstanding performance and improved fuel economy in the small passenger car market. The new Astra features a highly fuel-efficient 1.9-litre turbo engine. Astra Turbo Diesel will include a wide range of safety features including Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), ABS brakes, driver, front passenger and front side impact airbags, and full-size curtain airbags. New 6.0L V8 Engine Drivers who love a bit of thunder under the bonnet will also get a treat with a range of Holden's passenger and light commercial V8s on display. They include the Commodore SS, Calais, and "Thunder" packs of the Crewman SS and Ute SS. All feature the new 6.0-litre alloy V8 engine which delivers 260kW of peak power at 5,600 rpm and 510Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. The new engine enables torque delivery to be significantly increased at lower revs, offering improved acceleration, low-speed engine response and improved ease of towing. It is the first application of the L76 engine within General Motors around the world. The extra performance will be managed with better breathing sports exhaust and significant improvements to automatic transmission characteristics. Barina Sedan The new Barina Sedan is the latest addition to Holden's value-packed light car range and offers a high level of standard specification, generous interior space and great value. The eye-catching four-door is the first sedan in Barina's 21-year history and has been developed with significant Australian design and engineering input prior to its global release. Holden now offers an unprecedented range of small cars, with Astra Turbo Diesel and Barina Sedan bringing the offering to 20 variants.
