Holden debuts two new Astra body styles and the Tigra cabrio at the 2005 Melbourne International Motor Show with a display that demonstrates the strength and depth of its passenger, recreational and light commercial model line-up.

Among Holden headliners are a smart new trio of European small car imports due for release later in the year.

Making their Australian debuts are the stylish Tigra cabrio (named ‘Cabrio of the Year 2004’ at the Geneva Motor Show) and two new body shapes in the Astra SRi Turbo three-door coupe and Astra wagon.

This super-smart Euro trio will be introduced later this year and forms part of Holden’s big four-cylinder market assault in 2005.

The Holden stand also displays several recently-released all wheel drive (AWD) performers that are yet to roll into dealer showrooms.

The street-smart trademan’s dream (or is that tradeperson's dream?), the all-new AWD One Tonner Cross 6, joins other work/recreational models set for April release, including the VZ Crewman Cross 6, which is the first V6-powered AWD version of Holden’s unique four door stretch ute, and the VZ Crewman Cross 8.

They will be displayed alongside fellow Cross Trac-equipped high riders including Adventra LX6 and SX6 V6 AWD crossover wagons and their V8-powered stablemate, Adventra LX8.

The born-again Torana TT36 hot hatch showcar that caused a sensation at its Sydney debut is also certain to be a big crowd-pleaser, as is the recently unveiled 2005 VZ model Holden Racing Team V8 Supercar.

Holden’s varied 2005 model offering is further represented by the sporty 190kW ESPequipped VZ Commodore SV6, the performance hero Commodore SS, sports luxury Calais, 260kW twin-scooped, big bore exhaust Monaro, flagship WL Caprice and Statesman, new AH Astra and Astra Classic, Vectra, Cruze and the top-selling Rodeo.

Tigra Cabrio
Winner of the Geneva Motor Show ‘Cabrio of the Year 2004’ award, the standout Tigra twodoor
is a compact convertible which doubles as a stylish coupe. The well-equipped Tigra is powered by a 1.8 litre 16-valve engine and features a steel roof which folds and unfolds at the touch of a button.

Astra SRi Turbo
This smart three-door sports hatch coupe will introduce a sleek new body shape to Holden’s hot-selling Astra range. Equipped with a 2.0 litre, 147KW turbo engine, 18-inch alloy wheels (16” steel spare), leather trim and advanced active safety features, it will have plenty of appeal for performance enthusiasts.

Astra CDX Wagon
Compact wagon buyers should check out the new-to-Australia Astra CDX wagon, a firm family favourite in Europe. It retains all of the sedan’s sleek design cues, supple ride and handling agility while offering increased carrying capacity and more interior space.

VZ Adventra All Road Wagons
Holden’s AWD Adventra wagon range now boasts three new 190kW Alloytec V6-powered models and a high-output V8 to meet an even broader range of buyer needs. The three Adventras on show – top spec LX6 and LX8 models and the competitively priced SX6 – reinforce Holden leadership in delivering safety, technology and value.

One Tonner Cross 6
An Australian-made first, Holden’s Alloytec V6-powered AWD One Tonner Cross 6 is a tradie’s dream. A high ground clearance and permanent Cross Trac AWD system allow access to the toughest worksites in the city or the bush – in passenger car comfort. The classy steel and hardwood tray sported by the One Tonner Cross 6 on display is among a range of available options.

VZ Crewman
On show alongside Holden’s big, bold Crewman SS is the latest addition to this unique family of four-door utes. The all wheel drive Crewman Cross 6 mixes work and recreational use and will allow buyers to discover the benefits of a ‘stretch’ ute with V6 power and all-road capability.

Torana TT36 Hot Hatch Showcar
The sensational Torana TT36 showcar pays homage to a Holden icon. Not for production, the hot pink Torana TT36 is powered by an experimental 280kW twin turbo 3.6 litre Alloytec V6 engine. Holden drew on GM global resources to build this mid-sized hot hatch concept, which showcases bold directional design themes, among them a panoramic glass roof and a slick new-tech interior in minimalist black and white.

Racing legend Peter Brock will join current Holden V8 Supercar drivers to meet fans at various times throughout the show and Holden personnel representing a range of departments will be available to share their product knowledge.
The Melbourne International Motor Show 2004 is at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Southbank, and runs from 3rd March to 14th March.
